These brilliant women trumpeters weren't allowed to just play trumpet. They had to also be billed as singers with the bands they were in. They couldn't be taken seriously as instrumentalists. Instead, the were presented as the little lady who could also play a little trumpet. Absurd!

Your conductor tomorrow night will be Manfred Honeck, who has delivered a series of acclaimed recordings on Reference Records, including a Dvořák 8, about which Huntley Dent wrote in Fanfare. in 2014, "Honeck, now 55, is very secure musically, and he’s shaping the Pittsburgh Symphony with the full cooperation of the musicians. This was happening in Boston under James Levine before his ill-timed departure, and the same with the London Philharmonic under Vladimir Jurowski and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic under Vasily Petrenko. If you pride yourself on paying close attention to the life of orchestras, such special partnerships are treasurable. This CD is surely the product of one."

Dig this review by the same Dent in 2020 of a Bruckner 9, also on Reference: "Manfred Honeck has a gift for writing program notes, and his analysis of the Bruckner Ninth is so personal, to the point of eccentricity, that I should say right away that the performance itself, recorded in Heinz Hall in 2018, is magnificent.... I am not of mixed mind about the music-making here. Honeck’s Bruckner Ninth is the greatest I’ve heard since Giulini (who left us eight different recorded versions), and for me it surpasses any current rival. Bruckner collectors are known for being fiercely partisan about the conductors they like and dislike, and I am no exception. To my taste this release is a must-listen, joining every previous Honeck CD in that regard—he is undoubtedly gifted."
