Bill is not an uncommon name in pop, is it? I think of Jerome Kern's "Bill," sung here beautifully by Kiri te Kanawa:

The spousal unit and I attended a terrific concert at Carnegie Hall last night—the New York Pops with Tony DeSare, playing and singing Cole Porter. DeSare is Rosie Clooney-like in his unaffectedness peppered with vocal subtleties. Some innovative arrangements, all faithful to Porter’s genius. Also performing were the formidable trumpeter-singer-composer Bria Skonberg and otherworldly tap dancer-singer John Manzari, neither of whom knew from 18 hours ago.
