Hi Jeremiah and whoever is tuned in! I missed last week's show because I was on the way to London with my best friend and her mother. Great visit: went on the trail of my musician ancestor Ambrose Lupo, bought way too many records at good record shops, books and book shops, including a score by Ambrose's grandson Thomas, got to see a concert at Cafe Oto.

Good morning Jeremiah and all
@Don: What was the concert? I'd love to go to Cafe Oto, they seem to have consistently great shows

It was three acts from Manchester: Minimum Wage Immanence Unit, which was a three-piece improvisation unit with accordion, clarinet and a guy who switched off between guitar and banjo (so obviously I liked it), Kelly Jayne Jones (sound sculptures using minimalist background and the scraping of small rocks and a sound bowl over a bigger rock) and Lee Patterson (also sound sculptures based on self-made instruments, toys, interfering e-bows, glasses of vinegar and a few teaspoons of baking soda). It was fabulous.

I also did a purely acoustic show in a beer shop, preceded by a friend who played old crooked fiddle tunes from West Virginia, which turned out to be pretty entrancing.

think this is soprano sax but making some flute-y sounds
Avatar 3:47am
Jeremiah:

↳ tom tom the pipers son @3:41
Unclear. There is no soprano listed, but there is flute, alto flutephone, slide saxophone (no idea what that is), and baritone and bass saxophones. So I'm guessing it's actually flute unless slide saxophone is some sort of pitched up thingy.

i'm in ny for ~24 years and never heard that expression,"brick".
...but it's a warm 10ºf here tonight, 10-20º higher than it's been lately.
is it still brick?
up here we usually say it fucking freezing; or it's the god-damned north pole; or "it's a we bit chilly"...

yes, just maybe 100 miles north-west of jersey city. but in the hudson valley, and right along a ridge. sometimes it's warmer than right across the hudson, sometimes it's colder; sometimes we get the hurricanes and blizzards, sometimes they let us be. it's weird. lately nights have been around -1 to -9, but daytimes in the teens. today some ice melted.

0 F is -18 C, and pretty close to my level too. At -20 C, my face burns outside even if it's not windy. But anything above that is fine with the right clothes, and -10 C feels less cold than 0 C because it's drier. Also, -10 is the perfect weather for cross-country skiing. Something we're missing out on this year because you Americans stole our polar vortex....

Nice! I listen to Kreator at the gym haha. Specifically Hordes of Kaos. Nothing gets me running like anarchist German thrash. Kudos to you for being able to work out to this mellow stuff.

Gym playlists is quite a topic for the board :D . I tend to vary, quite often old-timey fiddle and banjo stuff, sometimes Gong, sometimes very similar to this show minus the smooth jazz - but not on the radio because I always put the phone in flight mode.

Exactly. I guess I really only listen to Kreator on the treadmill. Anything else I do I just listen to whatever I feel like. Sometimes just a podcast even.
