i think i found an answer to your question from last week about the ox bellow sound in the Marsha Hunt song.
i am informed it is most likely a rubber-tipped percussion mallet being pushed across the drum head, with the mic up close to it. the friction and the rubber work together to make it vibrate and you get the ox bellow.

I used to play radio static then turn the wipers on and off (it wasn't raining) and switch to different speeds to play with how it changed the way the static sounded. When I was like 16 years old.

I didn't start drinking and doing drugs until age 19, not sure what explains it.
