Favoriting Mid-Valley Mutations with Austin Rich: Playlist from January 7, 2025 Favoriting

austinrich's avatar View austinrich's profile Favoriting

A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

Back in 2020, I had gotten my first controller keyboard, and was able to fool around with MIDI for the first time. I spent a lot of 2020, during the initial "quarantine," learning MIDI, and trying to figure out what I could do with it. This is one of the things I made back then.

I've been watching Max Headroom, since it is / was my favorite show. I'm often shocked at the things this 40 year old TV show predicted accurately. It's so eerie to watch...

A lot of old cyperpunk movies are like that. They're all coming true, and it's... creepy.

Yeah, I love this BCO CD. When I first met them, I was tapped to engineer their live performance on "What's This Called?" a radio show in PDX. They gave me this CD, and I really treasured it. Now I work with them and they mail me all sorts of stuff like this. It's great!
