Familiar & forgotten gems from 50-plus years of music on the darker side, shoegaze, synthpop, goth, psychedelia, darkwave, with unapologetic detours into 70s pop. In a dark night of the soul, it's always 3 o'clock in the morning.

otherwise good pronunciation - except 'ju' in 'juhlissa' is like 'you' except shorter. (sorry for being a grammar nazi - Finnish is a phonetic language,
one might think that'd be easy, well the opposite is true if you are an English or French speaker for instance) Neonjuhlissa means 'at neon parties', whatever that means... Language lesson ends here.

Julian Cope's 80s and early 90s stuff is brilliant and then... he very much lost me. And around the same time, Robyn Hitchcock was releasing some of the best music of his career. There's probably a lesson there about taking care of your mental health.

I strongly recommend "Ummagumma" One disc of Perfect Live Space Rock. One disc of Solo Experiments that has to be one the weirdest single LPs ever released by a major rock act. It's basically what if "Revolution 9" was half the White Album. I love it. You may hate it!

One Finnish band even took their name from one the oddest Ummagumma tracks: they were called Several Species of Small Furry Animals. It did not end there; their first 7" was called '...Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict'

Same! I did get to see them live twice. When they supported P J Harvey in Berlin, Low were a lot better (even with their short set). I did not like the 'new' P J album at the time (The Hope Six Demolition Project) and as many songs in the set list were from that one it did contribute to me not enjoying her set as much one would've thought.

I had a ticket for a third Low concert, but the saddest happened - RIP Mimi Parker

Low were one of those bands that I enjoyed and respected but wasn't a big fan of for most of their existence, but then they released those final two albums albums, "Double Negative" and "Hey What" and it was like when MBV jumped from "Isn't Anything" to "Loveless." Like they broke through the plateau and discovered a new form of music. And then, yeah, we lost Mimi. Alan's new album is quite good but obviously Mimi was the heart of the band. I will always wonder about what the next album could have been... or maybe it was a "Blackstar" situation where there wasn't any further to go.

When I left my parents' house to Boston, I left behind a lot of CDs that I let everybody could browse through. My brother Travis picked up The Church's "Starfish" and he says it's one of his favorite albums. One of my proudest moments as an older sibling.

One of my go-to karaoke bands, as the singer's vocal range does not extend outside my own.

Yeah, I like Led Zeppelin when they get weird. Like my fave studio album is "In Through The Out Door." That's the one where John Paul Jones took over the controls and wow the rock fans did not like that one bit.
