↳ Song: "Late Night" by "Syd Barrett"
Ah, Syd Barrett. My late older brother turned me onto "Dark Side of the Moon" when he was still in his late teens and I was barely a teenager. A few years later he developed schizophrenia but took his meds regularly. He used to joke about the song "Brain Damage" and was good humored about his illness. Unfortunately, in May 1998 while he was staying with me, he forgot to take his meds for 48 hours. Before I could take appropriate action, and in a manic state, he put a gun to my stomach wanting to know who I was talking to outside! The paranoid part of the disease. Anyway, I got out unharmed. It's a horrible disease and the meds took their toll on him as he resumed until his passing on January 1st, 2011. it really sucked watching him become a OCD shadow of his former self. Years later, I still have had trouble resolving his death and suffering for years prior. Sorry for my rambling misery folks, but music can bring out both the good and the bad memories.

In the early 90s, I read a wildly inaccurate review of an A.R. Kane record (New Clear Child, I think, from '95) in... Option? B-Side? It likened them to Lush or MBV or maybe Curve. I was very excited to find that record at Tower (?) but hated it when it wasn't as described. Not the band's fault though! And this track is MUCH closer to what the review specified.

Ditto. My sister has untreated anxiety. Everyone on my mother's side suffer from some form of mental illness. And I am recovered 17 years from alcohol. While I literally do not struggle, I do give a lot of myself to about a half dozen people the seem to rely on me for strength in sobriety. I have endured many, many tough things, and tragedies in sobriety which has turned into a gift to others for support. The worst of all was December 13, 2018. My 84 year old mother was crossing the street when she was struck and killed by a car. It was not pretty either to say the least. And there's a knock on the door I will never forget. The two policemen standing there. Anyway, I am hoping to write a memoir soon of the past thirty years of my life along with a couple of Jack Kerouac novels of my travels around the country and into Canada. Sober, drunk, and sober over the years.
