One of the few top-40 pop stars with impressive songwriting talent. I didn't realize it was her here until I looked at the playlist because she wasn't singing one of her own songs. I don't know that a Wham! song is a very good use of her talents, but Xmas shit sells, so I can't blame her.

I guess my issue (and it’s obviously me) is that I just don’t hear lyrics, at least not until I’ve heard a song many times. So the songs just sound all the same…bland paste generated from the same set of plug-ins.

I rarely hear lyrics but hers jump out at me. Maybe it's that voice. I don't disagree that the music is playing within a certain specific stylistic box, but it works if you like that box. Maybe I've compromised too much by acceding to modern pop-isms instead of trying to fight them. I guess I got tired of doing that in the 90s and 00s, or maybe pop just started assimilating a bunch of things I liked from elsewhere.
