	🛎 12:33pm Phillippe: Finding out here what a bloody drag it is getting injured on a weekend. My bride fell while out on a walk Friday afternoon and shattered her elbow. Didn’t get out of the ER until after 8 so had to wait until Monday to see an orthopedist. Only available appt was with a PA who couldn’t make a surgical decision without a CT scan and surgeon’s review. Can’t get a surgeon appt until Thursday, which means she will be in a temporary ill-fitting splint for 7 days minimum before they operate.

I just got notice that my Cigna plan -- the one that I pay $$ that's used by white-shoe law firms -- may be dropping Mount Sinai. The whole fucking system. I live within walking distance of Sinai Astoria and ALL of my specialists, except for my neurologist, are affiliates AND are also within an easy walk for me. For tests, they have centers in BK that are 10X easier to get to than in Manhattan. It also means that instead of having to take a half day at work and make up hours late at night, I can take just an hour or less out for routine visits -- I once got bloodwork and a urine test done in all of 15 minutes -- INCLUDING WALK TIME. Sinai is building all over Astoria and it's great for me. I'd have to switch up ALL but one of my providers to NYU or another big operation, get all of my records linked up, etc. AND I'd have to go back to taking half days and spending a shit ton on Ubers into Manhattan for every little shitty thing. Lastly, as any woman here can attest to, finding a new Ob-Gyn is a GIANT pain in the ass and most of them around here aren't taking new patients. As someone who's had a few potential repro cancer scares over the years I REALLY don't want to change NOW since I've had the same provider forever now. Even worse for a friend of mine -- Blue Cross is now in a pissing match with Memorial Sloan Kettering and threatening to drop MSKCC. My friend is a schoolteacher with a weird pre-leukemia condition that requires monthly infusions. There's an infusion center right near her house Upstate. Her hubs, a writer, is on her insurance plan. If her infusions aren't covered anymore (her district uses Blue Cross) she and her hubs will literally go into bankruptcy. It's that or she declines rapidly and dies in a matter of months. She's in her 40's. It's all such inhumane bullshit.

We all got letters from Sinai, urging us to "contact our HR departments to urge Cigna to negotiate" or something similar (got a letter from Kettering with the same thing -- ages ago I had a mammorgram there so I was on their list). I forwarded the email to my HR contact. I got an email back from her and her boss, all very sympathetic, and said they'd been flooded with emails that AM on the topic. Turns out our HR can't actually do a fucking thing and I quote "It's cute that hospitals really think that HR at a company can do ANYTHING to alter insurance company policies." And it gets even better. My close friend, who also gave me the quote, also local, got the same email. But HE really DOES work at a billion dollar plus white shoe defendant side firm based out of NY. He's low level there but has the same plan as me. And he has MAJOR health issues and all of his people are Sinai. This is a guy who is 5 years younger than me but looks 15 years older and almost lost a leg due to vascular issues in his freaking 30's. HIS HR told him the same thing. I mean, it's insane that one of the most powerful law firms in NY -- Google, Amazon, Muskrat, and most major banks are their clients -- can't move the needle on an insurance company to either make a tailored plan for them or better yet just say fuck you goodbye and go with another provider.

ER basically did some butchery with stitching and a few screws but basically told him he was SOL for any corrective surgery. He almost lost an eye; both orbital bone areas got broken (3 guys jumped him and pounded his face into the curb while stealing his shit). His solution? He hung up his scissors and moved back to Croatia for treatment and therapy (both mental and physical). Cosmetic corrective surgery that didn't look like it was done with a fucking chainsaw and barbed wire, dental implants, etc all covered with a small copay.

There’s an office within walking distance (providing we don’t fall) that has our GP and PT and also does blood draws. It’s run by the hospital that has put together a three block long campus. All our records are housed together so 90% of the paperwork only has to be done one time. Once we finally get an appointment we never have to wait more than 10 minutes to be seen. They just don’t have enough people.

I'm not getting rich doing it, but this year alone I've worked on cases that take both Google and Amazon to task, as well as a shitty bank that got sued for not having adequate firewalls and tried to get out of giving people back their life savings. Also worked on the famous Google Antitrust case that the DOJ brought (we worked with the DOJ on that one and I'm proud to say I was the project manager for my team), and the famous PFAS "forever chemicals" case against 3M. And the JUUL case where they lost after we proved that they were marketing nicotine addiction to kids. Right now I'm on another huge case against a certain large media monopoly and their non-extant "privacy" practices.

	🛎 12:33pm Phillippe: Finding out here what a bloody drag it is getting injured on a weekend. My bride fell while out on a walk Friday afternoon and shattered her elbow. Didn’t get out of the ER until after 8 so had to wait until Monday to see an orthopedist. Only available appt was with a PA who couldn’t make a surgical decision without a CT scan and surgeon’s review. Can’t get a surgeon appt until Thursday, which means she will be in a temporary ill-fitting splint for 7 days minimum before they operate.

I just got notice that my Cigna plan -- the one that I pay $$ that's used by white-shoe law firms -- may be dropping Mount Sinai. The whole fucking system. I live within walking distance of Sinai Astoria and ALL of my specialists, except for my neurologist, are affiliates AND are also within an easy walk for me. For tests, they have centers in BK that are 10X easier to get to than in Manhattan. It also means that instead of having to take a half day at work and make up hours late at night, I can take just an hour or less out for routine visits -- I once got bloodwork and a urine test done in all of 15 minutes -- INCLUDING WALK TIME. Sinai is building all over Astoria and it's great for me. I'd have to switch up ALL but one of my providers to NYU or another big operation, get all of my records linked up, etc. AND I'd have to go back to taking half days and spending a shit ton on Ubers into Manhattan for every little shitty thing. Lastly, as any woman here can attest to, finding a new Ob-Gyn is a GIANT pain in the ass and most of them around here aren't taking new patients. As someone who's had a few potential repro cancer scares over the years I REALLY don't want to change NOW since I've had the same provider forever now. Even worse for a friend of mine -- Blue Cross is now in a pissing match with Memorial Sloan Kettering and threatening to drop MSKCC. My friend is a schoolteacher with a weird pre-leukemia condition that requires monthly infusions. There's an infusion center right near her house Upstate. Her hubs, a writer, is on her insurance plan. If her infusions aren't covered anymore (her district uses Blue Cross) she and her hubs will literally go into bankruptcy. It's that or she declines rapidly and dies in a matter of months. She's in her 40's. It's all such inhumane bullshit.

I forwarded the email to my HR contact. I got an email back from her and her boss, all very sympathetic, and said they'd been flooded with emails that AM on the topic. Turns out our HR can't actually do a fucking thing and I quote "It's cute that hospitals really think that HR at a company can do ANYTHING to alter insurance company policies." And it gets even better. My close friend, who also gave me the quote, also local, got the same email. But HE really DOES work at a billion dollar plus white shoe defendant side firm based out of NY. He's low level there but has the same plan as me. And he has MAJOR health issues and all of his people are Sinai. This is a guy who is 5 years younger than me but looks 15 years older and almost lost a leg due to vascular issues in his freaking 30's. HIS HR told him the same thing. I mean, it's insane that one of the most powerful law firms in NY -- Google, Amazon, Muskrat, and most major banks are their clients -- can't move the needle on an insurance company to either make a tailored plan for them or better yet just say fuck you goodbye and go with another provider.

He hung up his scissors and moved back to Croatia for treatment and therapy (both mental and physical). There’s an office within walking distance (providing we don’t fall) that has our GP and PT and also does blood draws. It’s run by the hospital that has put together a three block long campus. All our records are housed together so 90% of the paperwork only has to be done one time. Once we finally get an appointment we never have to wait more than 10 minutes to be seen. They just don’t have enough people.

And the JUUL case where they lost after we proved that they were marketing nicotine addiction to kids. Right now I'm on another huge case against a certain large media monopoly and their non-extant "privacy" practices.
