I discovered WFMU in 1987 after I graduated from college then moved to Dobbs Ferry and started working in NYC. I couldn't pick it up in Manhattan on my Walkman Radio, but I could tune it in on all radios in Dobbs Ferry.

genisse! i did have a transister radio when i was four, but my first radio was a boombox w/ shortwave I got for my 10th bday. I used to carry it through parks in japan on my shoulder, as was the style at the time (as I was led to believe)

Wendy, I remember you being active on various WFMU playlists and then one morning I randomly
connected to hear the Clay Pidgeon show. You had a call in segment of what could likely be good at that time in local farmer's markets which that day was some New Jersey specific tomato. You pointed out that it was not that that tomato had anything specifically superior about but that since it was local and in season that there was good odds to get optimal tomato taste. Your presentation was informative and entertaining. Great radio.

Thank you, WR! I remember that segment. I didn't have time to get into my early on-air experiences at WFMU, but yeah, I was a regular guest on Kenny G's show. We'd eat cheese on the air together. I co-hosted a few marathon shows. And there was The Weekly Cheese Report and Food Stuff on Wake & Bake. Yay!
