"In the Court of the Crimson King" seems to be a "divided line" for many into the "prog rock" era. But I've noticed a transition period I call "Prog 1.0" at the end of the '60s, which Shine On Brightly probably qualifies. Others I consider part of that period would be Keith Emerson's band The Nice, Dave Edmunds and Love Sculpture, transitionary Pink Floyd, etc. Then there's the Canterbury scene, which some even consider a parallel genre.

"In the Court of the Crimson King" seems to be a "divided line" for many into the "prog rock" era. But I've noticed a transition period I call "Prog 1.0" at the end of the '60s, which Shine On Brightly probably qualifies. Others I consider part of that period would be Keith Emerson's band The Nice, Dave Edmunds and Love Sculpture, transitionary Pink Floyd, etc. Then there's the Canterbury scene, which some even consider a parallel genre.
