If you have a weak stomach, don't see it. There's a lot of bodily horror and stuff with food - turkey, blood sausage. Also if you have misophonia it's gonna trigger you.

Personally, I’m passionate & dedicated to seeing any movie πŸŽ₯ (no matter the content) in theater! Especially if it has a distinct visual or artistic aesthetic. Yet it’s gotten more & more difficult as the simultaneous release streaming services are paralyzing our independent cinemas. They can’t get enough people in the seats anymore. It’s a shame - we all won’t be happy when they are gone forever. IMO, The Substance is essential β€œtrapped in the dark of a public theatre” experience!
- yet be forewarned, although it’s hysteric, over the top & even β€œfunny” - it ain’t for everybody. perhaps another entry in the burgeoning eye-popping neo-feminism movement & now within the body horror genre.

i totally want to check out The Substance! not only bc of the super-gross-out body horror -- but all the back and forth i keep hearing/reading about whether or not it is really "feminist"

have you ever seen The Wasp Woman? (only saw it on TV as a teenager -- Creature Features? Chiller Theater?) -- similar theme, female gets fired for being too "old" -- and i know that special effects in the late 1950s were hardly what they are today -- but i am guessing those in The Wasp Woman were considered pretty cheesey back then too

I have seen Wasp Woman. Unfortunately I don't remember much. I think the print was kinda muddy. I did watch the 1932 Bela Logosi/ Boris Karloff The Black Cat tonight. I highly recommend that.
