Be shaken. Be stirred. A whimsical wham-bam of exotic enchantments, sleazy oddities, pop fancies, and swingin’ slingers broadcast from Ridgewood, NYC’s very own Shangri-Lounge. Best served chilled, garnished with signature swizzle schtick.

Anyone seen any good horror movies this year? I just watched house on haunted hill last night and it seemed like something the fans of this show would enjoy. Vincent Price was delightful in it!

I love that movie! I try to watch it every year around this time.

Any movie with Suits of Armor as decoration, and shows the cast wandering around a supposedly haunted house for most of the film, is PERFECT in my book.

Hi Wimpy! Just watched House of the Devil from Ti West. But honestly it was sort of a letdown. Started off promising, but wound up rushed. That damn devil is always getting everyone pregnant in every film I watch it seems.

Yeah. You would think, after that many unfortunate circumstances, that he would learn to wear protection.

This time of year, I pull out this list, and try to mark off a few more that I haven't seen yet. Some are obvious classics; some are horror schlock from the golden age. I usually find at least one thing in all of these to love... sometimes more, when the movie is good.

Hey that’s sick! I think I’m gonna try to watch the mummy this year and maybe one of the tod browning films that criterion bundled with freaks last year. That’s a good list though, I haven’t heard of most of those.

wimpy:

Also that’s weird re:devil pregnancy lol. Pregnancy in any move like that always weirds me out super hard. Never got far into the x files cause of that.

That's a very solid start! I really love the original Mummy movie. (The music is VERY good.) And Tod Browning has a very good eye.

That list has a lot of gems on it, but beware! There are some stinkers, too. "Murders in the Rue Morgue," is, unfortunately, not great, even though it's a Poe story on film with Bela Legosi in the lead.
  7:28pm
wimpy:

Speaking of Poe movies, isn’t there one from that time period where the twist is that a monkey did it? I feel like I remember reading about it last year but can’t remember the name. It sounds super goofy even if an evil monkey was probably freaky stuff in the 40s
  7:32pm
wimpy:

Oh, looks like that’s the same one you were talking about! Guess it must not have been that goofy

It is! It's not that great a film, unfortunately. It has a couple interesting moments, but there's better Poe and Bela.
