“‘Why didn’t I realize?’,” he wrote. “It would have been very easy to change a note here or there, and not effect the feeling of the record.”

Of course - I think it's agreed there's a tendency to prefer an interpretation with which one first becomes familiar - even intimate we might say.
I also might've posited that TheBeatles were especially gifted @ Arrangement & Performance in their Covers.
But ...in just these ways - the Originals are much (even totally) less familiar to me in the greater %age of instances. Even now. In fact.
One might muse that TheBeatles were a novel & unique alchemy of Forms - even that early on. Interpretting Motown GirlGroups as their own self-contained GittarBand - for instance... Moreso than Elvis putting a different skin color on the presentation ...or maybe not as much as we think ??...
Not to say they didn't do the same thing to white Rawkabillies like Elvis & Carl Perkins & the Everlys too...
Probly related to the phenomenon of me, myself, being slackjaw bowled over by even hearing for the first time what DJ Mr. FineWine presents on 'Downtown Soulville' : an entire parallel reality to GarageRawk from another part of town (so to speak) - that remained entirely segregated from my exposure until even then... DJ FlashStrap plays Jamaican Dub that I also think can be thot of as a kind of analog to GarageRawk - in yet another circumstance / context...
