Propellerheads Featuring Miss Shirley Bassey | History Repeating | Decksanddrumsandrockandroll | Wall Of Sound | 1998 | Apparently this version is also known as the "Knee Length Mix" - Not to be confused with the "Ankle Length" and "Hip Length" mixes.(Seriously.) --- Contains a sample from 'Finders Keepers Song' courtesy of RM Films International Incorporated. // Propellerheads Featuring Miss Shirley Bassey – History Repeating / Featuring – Miss Shirley Bassey / Guitar, Engineer [Recording Engineer For Shirley Bassey Session] – Chris Lawson. //////////// "Dame Shirley Veronica Bassey CH DBE (/ˈbæsi/; born 8 January 1937) is a Welsh singer. Known for her career longevity, powerful voice and recording the theme songs to three James Bond films, the only artist to perform more than one, Bassey is one of the most popular vocalists in Britain. //// Born in Cardiff, Bassey began performing as a teenager in 1953. In 1959, she became the first Welsh person to gain a number-one single on the UK Singles Chart. In the following decades, Bassey amassed 27 Top 40 hits in the UK, including two number ones (As I Love You and AA: Climb Ev'ry Mountain/Reach For The Stars) plus a number one on the Dance Chart (History Repeating). She became well known for recording theme songs of the James Bond films Goldfinger (1964), Diamonds Are Forever (1971), and Moonraker (1979)." | 0:05:20 (Pop-up)
Iggy Pop | James Bond | Free | Thousand Mile, Inc. | 2019 | "Free is the eighteenth studio album by American rock singer Iggy Pop, released by Caroline International and Loma Vista Recordings on September 6, 2019. It features contributions from Noveller and Leron Thomas, and the title track was released along with the album announcement. A music video for the album's second single, "James Bond", was released on August 14, 2019. //// Iggy Pop described the album as "reflect[ing]" the exhaustion of post-tour life" as well as "uniquely somber and contemplative". He went on to say that after touring in support of Post Pop Depression, he felt "drained" and wanted to be "free", so the album "just kind of happened to me, and I let it happen". In an interview with Exclaim!, he elaborated: "I wanted to wiggle out of the frame of rock instrumentation that I'd gotten encased in over time. There's nothing wrong with it, but it wasn't what I felt at this time. I was interested in working with some fine musicians who broke out of the normal time and space." Pop also called it "an album in which other artists speak for me, but I lend my voice"." | 0:09:23 (Pop-up)
Kosmetika | Kosmetika Strikes Back | Luxury | Spoilsport Records | 2024 | From Melbourne, Australia; released July 2024. "Following their impressive DIY home-recorded effort in their sophomore album 'Illustration', Kosmetika turn to a more studio focused record featuring engineering from Erik Scerba. They also depart from the more duo focused sounds, to a band heavy approach featuring all five members inputing vocals, song ideas and creating a diverse and detailed 10 tracks channeling a combination of their two previous releases. //// 'Pictures Are Gone' [was the] first taste of a more collaborative endeavour from Kosmetika, sitting somewhere between the 80's melancholic new-wave of the last record and some of the faster paced pop songs yet to come on 'Luxury'. The track settles into a psych-tinged shoegaze slow burner, featuring Eno-like melodic bass lines and washed out distorted guitars. It features Veeka Nazarova, the sole vocalist of 'Illustration', and maintains her usual new-wave tinged pop, also found in album hits 'Automobile' and 'Halp'. //// The record manages to shift from full throttle guitar pop with Michael Ellis lead tracks 'Fish' and 'Make It Good', to the punk leaning Reward Risk headed by Jake Suriano (Dr Sure's Unusual Practice/Kitchen People). Also heading into more Krautrock territory, 'Silver Streak' and 'Kosmetika Strikes Back' lead by Dom Moore (Eggy) and James Lynch (Delivery) respectively, show off the bands knack for steadily driven guitar tracks with satisfying moments of release. //// Luxury is a record with so many influences and input that still manages to avoid any confusion in it's ultimate goal, and comes together as an important collaborative marker in Kosmetika's increasingly impressive discography." https://kosme-tika.bandcamp.com/ | * | 0:13:54 (Pop-up) |
DEADLETTER | More Heat! | Hysterical Strength | SO Recordings | 2024 | "DEADLETTER have unveiled a video for their new single ‘More Heat!’. //// It’s the latest track from their upcoming debut album ‘Hysterical Strength’, set for release on 13th September via SO Recordings, and follows the lead single ‘Mere Mortal’, and subsequent releases ‘Mother’ and ‘Relieved’. //// Lead singer Zac Lawrence says of the song: “More Heat! is about the way in which someone may attempt to convince themself they are feeling enjoyment from something that in reality is causing them a disturbance. Whether it be to preserve face, or simply through an inability to swallow their pride and accept that a spell of discomfort as a result of change far outweighs continuously doing something from which there is no contentment to be found.” | * | 0:17:22 (Pop-up) |
The Cravats | Rub Me Out | Rub Me Out | Crass Records / Bandcamp | 1982 / 2024 | From the Cravats' 1982 single (of the same name) on CRASS records, newly issued & available through Bandcamp (both digitally and as a 12") as part of CRASS's extensive & impressive reissue program. The two song release is available in full on Sep 9, 2024. https://crass.bandcamp.com/album/the-cravats-rub-me-outMa/ "A neo-dadaist group from Redditch, UK, formed in March 1977. Guitarist / vocalist Martin Seys left the band early and drummer Ethos Yapp left after the recording of first single 'Gordon'. From there on, the 'classic' line up of The Shend, Robin Raymond Dallaway, Svor Naan and Dave Bennett managed to release six more singles and two full albums (most of them on Small Wonder; some appeared in the indie charts Top 30), interspersed with some dada happenings. Between July 1979 and November 1982, they were also asked to make four sessions for the legendary John Peel radio show. In a true dada manner they gave birth to the “DadaCravat Laboratories” (D.c.L), which enabled them to form many aliases, where their music appears more danceable. The classic line-up changes only on their final 12” release in 1985 (minus Naan & Bennett but including Disney Time on drums). A reformed version of The Cravats including original members The Shend (vocals) and Svor Naan (saxophone), with Rampton Garstang (drums) has been performing since August 2009 and, since 2013 has included Viscount Biscuits (guitar) and Joe 91 (bass guitar). This line up have released two LPs of new work to date. ///////// Original line-up: The Shend (bass, vocals) / Rob Dallaway [aka Rev Arthur Asquith Asquith] (guitar, vocals) / Richard London [aka Yehudi Storageheater, aka Svor Naan, aka Baird Smart, aka F-Reg, aka Asquith Asquith Asquith] (saxophone, clarinet) / Dave Bennett [aka 31] (drums, vocals)" | * | 0:19:47 (Pop-up) |

Shaken And Stirred (The David Arnold James Bond Project) |
Warner |
1997 |
In keeping w/ the half-theme of this set, this tribute included amongst its collaborators both Iggy Pop & Propellerheads. This track features LTJ Bukem, and also the guitar work of Adrian Utley, perhaps most well known to the world with his work as Portishead's guitarist. //// Arranged By – David Arnold / Composed By – Monty Norman / Drums – Les Arnold / Featuring – LTJ Bukem / Guitar – Adrian Uttley / Producer [Additional Production By] – intense / Producer [Produced By] – David Arnold, LTJ Bukem. "Shaken and Stirred: The David Arnold James Bond Project is an album of cover versions of James Bond film themes organized and produced by David Arnold. Featuring contemporary rock and electronic artists of the time, it was compiled by Arnold in 1997 and released on East West Records in the United Kingdom and Sire Records in the United States. Following this project, Arnold would go on to compose the music for a number of Bond films. ///// John Barry, the composer of many of the themes on the album, was complimentary about Arnold's interpretation of his work; "He was very faithful to the melodic and harmonic content, but he's added a whole other rhythmic freshness and some interesting casting in terms of the artists chosen to do the songs. I think it's a terrific album. I'm very flattered." ///// A version of "You Only Live Twice" by Björk was recorded but not included on the album. It is available as a free download from bjork.com. Arnold had previously collaborated with Björk on the 1993 song "Play Dead". The arrangement of "You Only Live Twice" was also recorded with Natacha Atlas and released in 1999 as a B-side of the single "One Brief Moment", also produced by Arnold. ///// The Japanese release of the album also includes an orchestral version of "The James Bond Theme", which is identified as a "Bonus track for Japan"." |

Jane Horrocks | Isolation | Isolation Single | Redbush Entertainment | 2013 | Barbara Jane Horrocks (born 18 January 1964) is a British actress. She portrayed the roles of Bubble and Katy Grin in the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous. She is BAFTA winning actress who has appeared in numerous productions in the UK. Her first album of covers was released in 2000, with sporadic single releases in between. Mostly covers, including the Fall. She was in a relationship with the singer and actor Ian Dury, about whom she devised the 2022 drama, Love Pants: Ian Dury & Jane Horrocks, for BBC Radio 4, based on her own diary entries and his love letters to her during their one-year relationship in the 1980s, when she was 23. The two remained friends until his death in 2000. | 0:33:24 (Pop-up)
Lee Paradise | Breaker | Water Palace Kingdom | Daps Records | 2014 | I like these drippy synth sounds. Toronto's Dan Lee has always been comfortable shifting between musical lanes. After spending the past decade veering from the frenetic art-rock of his band Hooded Fang to the mesmerizing psychedelic beats of Phèdre, This is a bleak little record, but good pop music doesn’t have to be happy, as Lee Paradise has proved on this album. His latest 2023 release "Steady" is also worth a listen... | 0:37:05 (Pop-up)
Fontaines D.C. | Here's the Thing | Here's the Thing Single | XL | 2024 | I am loving this new Fontaines D.C...it's shaping up to be a more rockin' yet still dark effort that is spanning lots of different sounds. Here’s The Thing,” the latest single from Fontaines’ upcoming Romance following “Starburster” and “Favourite,” continues the album’s weird ’90s pivot. It’s a crunchy, grungy rock tune with a chorus that could almost pass for Weezer. This band continues to evolve in seriously intriguing ways. “It’s an anxious tune that twists and turns in what it wants, back and forth between pain and numbness,” singer Grian Chatten says of “Here’s The Thing.” He's right, it gets me twisty in the feels and makes me feel like an anxious 14 year old... | * | 0:40:55 (Pop-up) |
Magon | New Rock! | Hour After Hour | December Square | 2021 | I get gum chewing black leather clad brunettes getting ready to kick ass when I hear this. Some Pixies twangs make it extra special. Magon is Paris based Israeli psych-rock singer, songwriter & producer Magon, member of the successful duo Charlotte & Magon, recently launched his solo career again, after a 10-year break. An explosive and mysterious fresh start, both powerful and tailored for live, bringing the listener to deliciously retro sound paths which hit and impregnate from the very first hearing. | 0:43:45 (Pop-up)
frog power | Should Have Stayed Home | chicken necks (for rope) | frog style records | 2023 | This tune ended up being a lot more harrowing than we thought, once that second verse hits. Frog Power are from Dunedin New Zealand. Of course. "I have a hackey sack and cool dread locks. im never gonna die." Also they cover Country Teasers so yeah, they are cool. Dig into this catalogue because you'll be hearing more of this on the beach! | 0:46:31 (Pop-up)
Landowner | Floor | Blatant | Born Yesterday | 2018 | Holyoke, Massachusetts' Landowner have made a record that serves as a reminder that through self-awareness, empathy, and passionate aggression, one can unlearn desensitization and act upon on it within personal boundaries. Shaw’s fluidity and experimentation within post-punk throughout the record mirrors the emotional flux one experiences when engaging with the tragedies of American histories and their continuous manifestation in today’s public sphere. | 0:49:40 (Pop-up)

John Parish & Aldous Harding | Three Hours | The Endless Coloured Ways (The Songs Of Nick Drake) | Chrysalis | 2023 | Various artists gather to pay tribute to Nick Drake, circa 2023. The anthology was "headlined by a new take on “Three Hours” by Aldous Harding and her longtime producer John Parish. Memorials | The Lamplighter | Memorial Waterslides | Fire Records | 2024 | From the Memorials newsletter: "Hello! Hope you’re having a good summer if you’re in the northern hemisphere and a good winter if you’re in the southern. Our new single LAMPLIGHTER is out today! LISTEN HERE. It’s the third single taken from our debut album on Fire Records - Memorial Waterslides - which - in case you missed it - will be out on 4th October... A mere two months to go! //// It’s the poppiest song on the album and we created our own tape machine mellotron especially for it. However, underneath its deceptively upbeat exterior there is a darkness (of course)... //// ...."It's Fanny Burney! Lamplighter includes the following quote from a letter she wrote to her sister in 1812, describing her experience of undergoing a mastectomy without anaesthetic the previous year: “I saw the glitter of polished Steel…I needed no injunctions not to restrain my cries”." https://memorialsmusic.bandcamp.com/ | * | 1:05:03 (Pop-up) |
J.R.C.G. | World i | Grim Iconic... (Sadistic Mantra) | Sub Pop | 2024 | Released Aug 2. "To experience Justin R. Cruz Gallego’s pulverizing Sub Pop debut is to get burned down to ashes and burst forth, born anew. Grim Iconic...(Sadistic Mantra), the Tacoma-based artist’s second album, is driven by opposing forces: noisy abstractions and tightly structured beats, anguish and dissolution at the outside world and empowerment within, apathy and catharsis. Grim Iconic...(Sadistic Mantra) weds scouring electronics to hooky songs and Gallego’s powerful drumming in a way that feels visceral and new. It’s his most personal statement to date, at once playful and intent, driven and combustible, total fucking chaos mixed into glints of broken-glass beauty. //// Born in Tucson, Arizona, Gallego experienced culture shock as a child after relocating to the frigid climes of the Pacific Northwest. He found solace in the Seattle punk scene centered around Iron Lung Records and has since remained a fixture in the underground community. //// “I see this record as first and foremost a musical statement,” Gallego says. “I grew up in punk and DIY subcultures, but before that I had Latin music playing in the background through my childhood and every phase of adolescence. It was surprisingly natural to incorporate. I realized I wanted to go deeper into these rhythms. I wanted to make a record that felt as experimental as much as it felt from the perspective of a Latino. When I got a glimmer of that possibility, it felt exciting.” //// “Drummy” launches J.R.C.G. beyond the sound of the project’s 2021 debut, Ajo Sunshine, marrying that album’s noisy experimentalism to a newfound focus on rhythm. “It was the first song I wrote for Grim Iconic. To me, it’s the very next scene after the last album closes. ‘Drummy’ married the two approaches and pushed it into this next sequence of songs.” Fascinating amalgams of visceral rhythms and incandescent noise permeate Grim Iconic... (Sadistic Mantra), from the looping hand drums of "34" to the Funhouse-meets-Tropicália blasts of "World i.” It all embraces a sense of freedom while facing modernism..." https://jrcg.bandcamp.com/ | * | 1:09:15 (Pop-up) |
Andrew Rae | Join The Band | Electric Fuzz Factory | Self-Released [Bandcamp] | 2024 | Released February 2024, but we're still gonna call it new... From his @andrewjrae Instagram... "Join the Band is the first track on my new album Electric Fuzz Factory. Yay! Middle aged man makes psych album!! The words no-one wants to hear. These are songs that I started making about 7 years ago after my daughter was born and when I still thought I might be able to get a band back together. I wasn't going to do anything with them as I couldn't see much point but then I got a looper and started playing them for fun in the evenings and then I started messing around with some techniques in After Effects and then this video started coming together. It only really took a couple of weeks to make but then took ages for me to feel like I wanted to show anyone. Now I feel like I might start making more music and videos as it's a lot fun. If you're interested you can watch it bigger and better on my YouTube channel or on our new website. So anyway blah blah here it is I hope you like it, but I wouldn't blame you if you don't." Osees | Drug City | Sorcs 80 | Castle Face | 2024 | It's Osees o'clock again...! New new Osees... August new! Yeah! --- "Taking inspiration from the nervy post-punk pulse of [previous Osees album] Intercepted Message, Dwyer decided to create SORCS 80 using samplers, approaching the electronics with the finesse of a caveman. Alongside Osees keyboardist Tom Dolas, he hotwired four-track demos through Roland SPD-SX sampling pads, which the pair then triggered with drumsticks. Neither musician plays their signature instrument: Their work comes through the samplers in shards glued together by bassist Tim Hellman and decorated by saxophonists CansFis Foote and Brad Caulkins. //// Those saxophones are intended to recall the shambolic soul of Dexys Midnight Runners, another chief inspiration for Dwyer here. If you squint, it’s possible to discern echoes of Searching for the Young Soul Rebels on “Earthling,” where he’s buoyed by nagging horns as he bellows from his gut like Kevin Rowland. Soul isn’t the only style the saxophones stir up: On “Drug City,” the sax conjures the ghost of James Chance, landing squarely between no wave and new wave. What’s fascinating about SORCS 80 is that it feels vaguely rootless—some sounds are familiar but the form is not. //// That isn’t to say Dwyer has chucked out hooks or melodies the way he did his guitar. SORCS 80 contains some of his sharpest recent songwriting—the tunes just happen to get transformed by the Osees’ execution..." https://ohsees.bandcamp.com/ | * | 1:22:48 (Pop-up) |

Fuzz Club |
2024 |
"Upupayāma are back with a new album, and a new single that keeps the fire of their vibrant psychedelia lit. The band is the work of Italian artist Alessio Ferrari, who assembles psychedelic tapestries solo under the veil of Upupayāma. He’s had two unstoppable albums on Centripetal Force/Cardinal Fuzz and makes the move to Fuzz Club for his latest. The first single ”Moon Needs The Owl Pt. 1” is as dense and driven as ever, laying down a propulsive throb that anchors Ferrari’s embellishments of guitar, flute, and Thai guitar. The song has a dance element to it — heady and sweaty, lost in the haze of the nocturnal thrall. Can’t wait to hear more from this beast. The new record, Mount Elephant, is out September 13th from Fuzz Club." |

Warmduscher | Staying Alive | Staying Alive Single | Strap Originals | 2024 | I love how Clams Casino channels that Gibby Haines but keeps it his own thing. Pointed political commentary from a bunch of jolly degenerates. It’s a cut from their upcoming fifth album ‘Too Cold To Hold’. The full-length, set for release on 15th November via Strap Originals, features collaborations with Irvine Welsh, Lianne La Havas, Confidence Man’s Janet Planet, Jeshi, and CouCou Chloe. Following their previously released single ‘Fashion Week’, the band describe ‘Staying Alive’ as: “A working class anthem designed by the ones waiting at schools and selling careers in war to the youth of today while their parents work for a system that keeps them going with positive propaganda and synthetic solutions when all else fails.” | * | 1:36:17 (Pop-up) |
The Male Gays | I'm Not a Punk, Babe | Be Kind EP | Chapter Music | 2024 | What happens when you put two frustrated gay record label nerds together from opposite ends of the world? You get The Male Gays - cross-continental DIY queer pop from Guy Blackman, label boss of Melbourne, Australia's long-running Chapter Music, and Bart McDonagh, stalwart of London's legendary Domino Records and owner of his own imprint Amour Foo. More used to working behind the scenes these days, it took The Male Gays a little while to gather the courage to share their work with the world, but the end result is endearing, silly and oddly moving. Bart has previously played in London strum-and-drum queeroes Barry, while Guy has recorded with Montero, Minimum Chips and Sleepy Township as well as several arch and/or heartfelt solo releases | * | 1:39:30 (Pop-up) |
cumgirl8 | Karma Police | Karma Police single | 4AD | 2024 | YAAAAAASSSSSSSS. I just keep loving this band more and more and more. After coming-of-age with their introductory self-titled EP (2020), experiencing their own end with their RIPcumgirl8 EP (2021), and witnessing a twisted vision of the afterlife through their first EP on 4AD phantasea pharm (2023), cumgirl8 is now on the cusp of their 8th cumming by way of their long-awaited debut 4AD album of that name, out October 4. With the track, the band deliver not a Radiohead cover, but a chaotic tour story of missed flights and stolen luggage delivered with a hailstorm of angular glittering keys, propulsive swirling riffs, and darkwave night club whispers akin to Gina X, Essential Logic, & Delta 5. Capitalizing on the band’s historic “gothic pop and scuzzy dance-punk studded with horny prose” (PF) | * | 1:41:32 (Pop-up) |
TOMI | @myphone | @myphone single | In Between Records | 2024 | A recent release from a new discovery! TOMI is the genre-bending creation of songwriter/producer Pam Autuori, self described as "Psychedelic Mom Rock.” After going through the major label machine, Pam rebuilt TOMI from scratch - adding band members Riley Bray (Bass) and Kevin Brown (drums). This power-house trio blends 90s nostalgia and modern anxiety with a captivating and high energy live performance that leaves both the audience and the band screaming. TOMI’s style is characterized by ferocious guitar and resounding vocals—an unfettered, urgent, and emotionally supercharged sound that was forged from a ruthless determination to sing, play, and do things her own way, even in the face of life’s obstacles. | * | 1:44:43 (Pop-up) |

Buffet Lunch | I Was a Teenage Greengrocer | For Display Purposes Only | Buffet Lunch | 2024 | I love this quirky slacker shit. It is gently unsettling but oddly comforting. It's like being a half inflated helium balloon floating along the sidewalk at waist hight. Like Fat White Family without the super bad vibes and with a sense of humour. 'For Display Purposes Only' was written and recorded by Buffet Lunch across the hot summer and cold winter of 2022. We set up shop at Mushroom Studios, Inveresk Industrial Estate, Musselburgh and had a wonderful time. Jayne Dent (Me Lost Me, Bitchfinder General), Iain McCall (Kaputt, Lylo) and Joe Howe (Banana Oil) joined in with additional vocals, saxophones, piano and organs, adding a beautiful melodic thread running through an album that references cooking dinner for Brian Eno, industrial heritage, past occupations, self-value, self-modification, art, fortified castles, land rights, heaven, King Charlie's hands, Hexham heads and the birth of a child (amongst other things). | * | 1:49:10 (Pop-up) |

Sparks | It's Sunny Today | The Girl Is Crying in Her Latte | Island Records | 2023 | Sparks are rightfully praised as savvy shapeshifters, but the past decade has been one of relative aesthetic consistency. After a half-century of bounding between rock theatricality, electro-disco austerity, and classical frippery, recent releases like Hippopotamus and A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip have synthesized the Maels’ interests into sleek hybrid models, presenting a vision of pop music that belongs equally to Old Hollywood and outer space. | 1:58:24 (Pop-up) |

Could run a sweepstake on it maybe?
Mind you it could end up potentially a bit dull, Bowie & the Stones fighting it out or what have you
Perhaps preserving the mystery might be better?
Plus it'd encourage bot creation to go around & inflate the figures.
But maybe it could be part of the fundraising, pay $100 & be told how many stars your fave act has, or all the songs with 34 stars.
Or something.

LIVE from Los Angeles: Elizabeth Banks stars in the rival cosmetics boutique thriller SKINCARE and we have Director Austin Peter with us. Then grab those tissue boxes as we take a look at the beautiful and extremely moving film for the whole family MY PENGUIN FRIEND. Inspired by a true story, Jean Reno stars as a fisherman who forms the most unlikely of bonds with... you guessed it, a penguin. Now if you're looking to kick back, get blazed and delighted by some insanity and cool ass surfer footage then look no further than our latest CULT FILM recommendation: THE GREATEST SURF MOVIE IN THE UNIVERSE. Finally we are headed to the Hollywood Bowl to take in this summer's most surprisingly incredible concert..Seal! August 15th at 7pm-11pm PT, 10pm - 2am ET."

What is the top song per show/dj
What song played only once has the most stars?
What's Bowie's least popular song?
Who has more The Fall or Joy Division?
Who has the better average stars per play Throbbing Gristle or the Rubinoos?
Who wins the Oasis vs Blue battle (& is it Pulp)?
All sorts of questions. A fundraiser show where you pay to learn the answer to your question .
A show of the the least fave track of the most popular artists.
A data driven drop-in/rotation show hosted by an excitable nerd or a nasel ach-shoe-ally nerd or a robot. Wake&Bake'sSam Sam takes over to to the best of wake at fundraising time.
What is the most extreme differences between the streams?
The list goes on
The actual full proper league table & especially the top ten should forever remain a mystery as that's what other station are & is anti-wfmu & besides its more fun to speculate
But a drop in of the top for each show might work
