Found this: Gandy dancer
A slang term for early railroad workers in the United States who laid and maintained tracks before machines took over. The term may come from the workers' synchronized movements while using a five-foot lever called a "gandy" to keep the tracks aligned. The workers would force the gandy under the rail and push with their full weight to move the rail back into place, making a "huh!" sound with each push. The term was first used in 1915.
