I never got rid of my CDs either - important backup medium, plus the original liner notes and material is a great tangible thing to have. But for the last two decades, I've just uploaded them into my computer and listen through there. For Ken's premium this year, I experimented with the new direct download option, as mash-ups are more of a digital native artform. Although I still like the cover designs for the other DJ premiums, and the prospect of backup media to keep them around.

Still uploading (and evaluating) the CDs! But I should try the download soon, as the link might not last long.

I'll let you know how the process goes! I presume a ZIP file with individual MP3s inside? That's usually how they are packaged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm

↳ Song: "R.A.F." by "Brian Eno and Snatch"
got this on a bootleg double lp in the 80s "music for palaces"

Nice! I haven't ripped CDs in a while and never really setup a new workflow on Linux. When I ran Windows, I used CDex and really liked it. The paranoia mode worked wonderfully to ensure the rip was clean.

Yeah. I am not sure how WFMU handles it. If it is through KenzoDB or just a link somewhere on the web server.

Avatar 4:57pm

Hard to explain...not "the" Simpsons' Springfield, but it is the "original" reference. Near the hip college town of Eugene, OR is the "average shlubs" of Springfield, OR. Besides being an Everytown name (every state does have at least one), it's an in-joke as the Eugene people viewed them.

Here's my flyer I hand out to random people who look like they would like it. Band tshirts, musician tshirts (Zildjian symbols), punks or punk or goth tatoos etc.
WFMU.org freeform college radio
Every type of music you can imagine
Goth, punk, noise, metal, pop, old country, polka, speedmetal Melvins, Tom Jones, Chrome, Merl Haggard, Joy Division, New Order, King Crimson, Bruce Springsteen, 13th Floor Elevators, The Byrds, The Who, Voivod you name it, they got it.
Go to WFMU.org and listen to one of two live streams or check out their archive.
Also fun is put in a name of a band in the WMFU band browser and see the shows it appeared in.
Why do I do this? Because WFMU is free and really truly amazing music available for free.
On the app on your phone you can download 3 hour long shows if you want. All FREE FREEFORM radio. There is NOTHING ELSE like this out there, except for maybe some college radio stations.
Shows (at least 40 or more) to check out:Garbage Time, Irwin, Dianes Kamikazee Fun Machine (metal), John Allen (kinda noisy) , Ken, Feelings with Michele with one L, etc etc etc. The archived shows go all the way back to 2000.
