With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

June 30, 2024: A Capital Hill
Sampling from the vast buffet of music written and performed by Chicago-born pianist, composer, and teacher Andrew Hill on his 93rd birthday. He began as a boy-soprano/accordion player/tap-dancer. As a teenager, he played with both Charlie Parker and Miles Davis when they toured the midwest, and went on to lead groups large and small, as well as to record gorgeous solo outings. The great majority of his work he composed, insisting on his singular sound and vision. Truly inimitable.

' Andrew Hill (June 30, 1931 – April 20, 2007) was an American jazz pianist and composer.
Jazz critic John Fordham described Hill as a "uniquely gifted composer, pianist and educator" although "his status remained largely inside knowledge in the jazz world for most of his career."
Hill recorded for Blue Note Records for nearly a decade, producing a dozen albums. '

Jimmy Beans was part of the Lalime's empire. Some years ago the family started selling assets. Jimmy Beans became Lama Beans, and it remains very good. My daughter's friend's father works there. Sadly, Lalime's, the flagship restaurant east of San Pablo and walking distance from our place, closed during the pandemic. (We walked to Sam's, too.) It's now a hoity-toity pizza joint, three point one four, https://www.threeonefourpizzeria.com/. I suppose we'll have to try it, but I miss Lalime's.
