Favoriting June 13, 2024: Bob chats with Director Karim Aïnouz about his film FIREBRAND & more!!
LIVE from Los Angeles: FIREBRAND tells the story of Henry VIII's sixth and final wife Katherine who becomes a target of the king's vengeance in his paranoid attempt to wipe out heresy. The film stars Alicia Vikander and Jude Law and we have Director Karim Aïnouz on the show. Then... It is summer and just about every theatre in town is cranking out their big summer musicals. We'll drop into the Pulitzer Prize winning A STRANGE LOOP downtown at the Ahmanson, La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts has Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID, Pasadena Playhouse brings us JELLY'S LAST JAM and the Hollywood Pantages has the national tour of MRS. DOUBTFIRE. Finally there may be no better time to be had in all of southern California when the Troubies mashup Shakespere's Antony & Cleopatra with the music of Duran Duran in their one-of-a kind vaudevillian DURAN DURANTONY & CLEOPATRA at the Colony Theatre in Burbank. June 13th at 7pm-11pm PT, 10pm - 2am ET.

a fmu dj recently joked about Duran Duran Duran recently (in relation to some other repetitive repeated redux i can’t seem to recall). re DD ; always cherished my 1st 2 albums - their self titled & Rio (of course!). Yet even as a youth, really felt a huge falling-off at 3rd album.
I liked some of the 12mixes though. Apparently some of the latter albums (most recent 2021?) has a ‘return to Rio’ vibe. I love hearing all the extended 12” mega-mixes from the early years (via the streaming interwebs).
It was a💥blast to revisit A Clockwork Orange (late 80s+++) & freeze frame the scene w/ Malcom McDowell browsing at the record store featuring band names such as Duran Duran & Heaven-17, etc. ♥️

Seeing the original production of “Ain’t Misbehavin’ on Broadway as an impressionable kid was a life changer.
Must say - don’t think I’ve yet to see a musical I’ve ever had more fun at. (Chicago came close). Anyway, so envious of seeing Jelly’s Last Jam. I so so wish I had attended it’s original run.

Was the incomparable Vernel Bagnerice in that original soundtrack cast album?

my youthful copy of ‘double vision’ (original 1978 USA pressing?) had a skip on the ‘hot blooded’ song outta the shrinkwrap. Traded in for 2 more successive copies - it was a pressing issue with the 1st batch. Never replaced the 3rd copy 🤷‍♂️. I had moved on by ‘mind games’ 🙄🫣. Ha.
