Danielle Boutet | 14e Siècle | Pièces | Freedom To Spend | 2024 |
Hot damn, this entire album is gorgeous. Go get yours now: https://freedomtospend.bandcamp.com/album/pi-ces Originally self-released by Danielle Boutet in Montreal, Quebec, in 1985. Reissued by Freedom To Spend as part of their uncommon¢ (“uncommon sense”) series. From the bandcamp write-up: "Moving from languid ennui to high drama, Pièces is a dreamy gestalt, an album that borders Chanson, spoken-word, jazz noir, and minimalism, conjured from the chasm between acoustic and electronic realms. Pièces allows us a window into the highly intimate songcraft and compositional skill of an artist who longed to linger not in the public eye, but in relation with others and the world around her." |

Jon played here last year in a tiny coffee shop. For free. During a power outage. He hopped up on the chair, unplugged from the amp, and just kept going. Good ol' Jonny!

Met her a few times in the early 80s when she was in her Siouxsie Sioux goth mode rather than the later glamour look you see there. Seemed like a good egg.

/when i was in hs, there were some domincans that danced to merengue during a pep rally, and i was so confused (i wasn't into music at the time). out of 850 students in our hs of grades 10-12, maybe there were 9 that were hispanic.
/i learned a lot about hispanic culture later, obviously....
