With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

After changing hands, Maybeck Recital Hall morphed into Maybeck Studio. In fact, I don't get there all that often, but a friend lives across the street. Good to hear you'll feature a track off the series record!

If I had a musical bone in my body, I'd have opted to sing countertenor. Unmentioned in the article, Dominique Visse, who sang with the early Les Arts Florissants. His is a reedy, rustic voice, perfect for his role as one of the witches in Purcell's Dido & Aeneas.

I never thought of KB in terms of Tommy Flanagan. Maybe it's because he's been there through all my jazz listening, a piano playing fact of life. Can't unhear it now. Wouldn't want to, either.
