"Jesu" is a pretty melody that seems to have re-entered the public consciousness around the Baroque Pop period, go off on that into electric psych directions and suddenly a bunch of people are recording it. The Dutch rock-classical Apollo 100 in the '70s too.

Allen is best known for his work with Sun Ra, having recorded and performed mostly in this context since the late 1950s, and having led The Sun Ra Arkestra since 1995, after Sun Ra's death in 1993 and John Gilmore's death two years later. Well - this was when the smallest handful of pals even knew of the existence of Tolkien's writing. 'The Inklings' - literary drinking buddies. Otoh - even amongst them - polarizing.

Don’t you absolutely have to play The Mollusk now?
Never mind, that’s obviously too on point

I just think it is truly obnoxious to criticize someone's work like that. Who did he think he was, to be in such a position to judge and then to rain on Tolkien's parade....

I too am sick of being oysterized.
And, this is the third time I’ve heard Kevin Ayers on WFMU in a ten day period—not a bad thing at all. <3

Well, I think there are ways to critique someone's work that don't presume to judge the creator's whole approach. I also think if you're gonna be that harshly critical, maybe you only need to say things like that once?
