Obscure musical gems, avant experimentation, and classics worth rehearing. A conurbation of Leslie speakers, timbales, plungers, arch-tops, tablas, and squeaky reeds. Black ties, pork pies, Cuban boots, Nudie suits, bobbysocks, turtlenecks, and high-heeled sneakers. Jazz is the north star but it’s a wide universe, so says The Laughing Clock.

Listener comments!
DJ Peter:
(The article here does not contemporary albums that Cuscuna produced: The Laughing Clock will take a [preliminary] stab at rectifying that.)

I have a really moving documentary of Misha on tour with ICP while suffering from dementia. Some days he is there and others he isn't. The entire bad clearly loves him.

Special mention must go to a shining moment at Arista Records in the 1970s, when Steve Backer and Michael Cuscuna signed Anthony Braxton, Henry Threadgill, and other avant-gardists to a major label. As a producer, Cuscana was not as hands-on as Alfred Lion, let alone Manfred Eicher or Creed Taylor, but it was entirely Cuscuna’s idea to have Braxton, Lee Konitz, and Roy Haynes meet on a Dave Brubeck record, All the Things We Are.

It sounds like Motian to me too but a very backbeat-y Motian. Need to go back and listen to how he was playing with Jarrett at this time.

Tom "Billy Jack" Laughlin was the episode's villain, who victimized Burt Reynolds. DeForest Kelley was in it too, playing a cop.
