My love's BP raises 15 - 20 points just walking in the docs office, a condition recognized as "White Coat Syndrome."
Once she's seen & he talks with her, her pressure drops down to reasonable levels.
Her cardiologist says monitor your BP every few days & if the top number remains over 140 consistently come in & see him.
Of course she's on BP meds as am I

Grandfather dies
Father dies
Son dies
The merchant was angry. "What kind of evil spell are you writing against my family?" he demanded of Sengai.
"It is no evil spell," said Sengai, "but a hope for your greatest good fortune. I wish that every man of your family shall live to be a grandfather. And I wish that no son may die before his father. What truer happiness than life and death in this order can any family desire?"

Many factors.
I have atherosclerosis & have had a heart attack.
My cardiologist is happy if I maintain 135/90 or so with my meds & watching what I eat & drink.
Lately, even with the stress I'm under I've managed to keep it around 125/ 85. Rare for me.
Not drinking alcohol is definitely a factor.
Keep up the sobriety :)

If you have ever been involved in politics directly (my Dad was a small town mayor for a few years & I was a county party committee rep., no longer) one thing folks need to understand is simply this:
No matter what you do, someone will be unhappy with your choice. It's just the nature of the beast so you try your best to do what you believe is best, for the greatest number of those your decision will affect.

I despise war/conflict of any kind, sadly many don't.
When dealing with issues at the Federal level it's important to understand that when "bills" come up, there are often many things lumped into a bill that may cause one to vote for it's passage.
I tend to read the bill texts in full (I've read bills in excess of 1600 pages at times). Many only make their opinions/judgements on what their press feeds them. I don't
