If you receive a bill from your doctor or facility that is associated with this admission request, call the number on your health plan ID card." But that just strikes me as impossible.

	♥ 2:32pm fred: I once had surgery early one year, everything lined up. Except my helpful "union" reps signed on to an insurer switch but kept it quiet. That cost me a lot. told them and they just said they got a lot of designer glasses out of it

	♥ 2:34pm doctorjazz: ↳ Handy Haversack @2:25 You do need to appeal, often thaty will sort things out. (there's a financial incentive for Insurance companies to deny even if it should be approved. It's a bit like the old "mail in rebates" offered on some items to get you to buy it at a sale price. They know a large percentage of people just won't get around to mailing it in, and they keep the full price. Similarly, denials that could be appealed often aren't (people don't get around to it for whatever reason), saving money for the insurance company (and they lose little if you appeal and they have to approve, just money they would have spent anyway). System sucks, of course.
	♥ 2:35pm Dan S: I often wonder how many people our health insurance "system" makes sick from aggravation, frustration, and worry. Could it be a case of your having both primary and secondary insurance and it's not clear which insurance is responsible? That's happened to me.

But that doesn't always help, hospital may try to pass it on to you. But, they might be worth involving, since they are responsible for the admission decision. )

It's a bit like the old "mail in rebates" offered on some items to get you to buy it at a sale price. They know a large percentage of people just won't get around to mailing it in, and they keep the full price. Similarly, denials that could be appealed often aren't (people don't get around to it for whatever reason), saving money for the insurance company (and they lose little if you appeal and they have to approve, just money they would have spent anyway). System sucks, of course.
