I hate mornings too, except during a small period of autumn, but only when I am among the orange leaves.

I have had this schedule for 25 years because of my job. If I had my druthers, I would get up at sunrise. I was a night person in my youth though. I like calm mornings now.

Killer whales are attacking boats, and they’re playing metal to keep them away:
www.nytimes.com...

Here’s the Spotify playlist they’re using:
open.spotify.com...

But why would they think that orcas hate metal? I dunno, if you’re called a “killer whale,” that’s pretty damn metal.
Avatar 12:23pm
Bill Zebub:

I have objected to that nomenclature.
  12:25pm
OSS:

Maybe Orcas have been listening to Ahab! They have a concept album about a whale that attacked and destroyed a whaler ship and it's a true story.
Avatar 12:30pm
Mr Fab:

from the article: "to deter them, the crew also tried another idea that had been passed along: booming a curated playlist of heavy metal — titled “Metal for Orcas” — through an underwater speaker. But the animals had moved quickly, targeting the rudder and disabling the boat’s steering."

See - I think they LIKED the music. It created an underwater mosh pit.
  12:31pm
OSS:

haha that's hilarious Mr Fab
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Krys O.:

They tried that on Manuel Noriega in Panama.
Avatar 12:35pm
Mr Fab:

↳ OSS @12:25
reading about Ahab now. they sound really cool - apparently all their albums are about ocean adventures. Sea-shanty metal?
  12:37pm
OSS:

Nautical fuenral doom they call themselves!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm
Krys O.:

Turns out the playlist that they blasted on Noriega was not exclusively metal.

↳ Bill Zebub @12:52
There's a lot of terrible pop music that needs enhancements to get people's attention, so I'd agree with what the comedian said.
Avatar 12:56pm
Bill Zebub:

Well, there are people who despise metal. Music is a personal thing. Also, some people only like it on a surface level.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Krys O.:

I'm fairly inured to many different types of music, but certain vocal qualities like the interrogative cadence combined with vocal fry can send me running for the mute button. Or 'indie music phonetics'.

true, pop is meant to get the attention of a lot of people, so it need to be aimed at the casual listener.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
Krys O.:

Bryce's show on Friday afternoons has been described as 'marbles in a blender' at times. Of course he plays a very wide variety of music including Indian classical. I find drones and metal can be very soothing.

even the rythm of this song is a bit army of me like!
Avatar 1:05pm
Bill Zebub:

I remember when I was in my first band and sang like King Diamond. I was too stupid to know that it is silly to clone someone, although the band Attic sounded more like King Diamond that the man himself (I think he released some stinkers later in his history).
Avatar 1:06pm
Bill Zebub:

Anyway, I wonder if Goupa intentionally mimics Bjork.
  1:07pm
OSS:

It might be an influence on the vocalist so probably it is intentional.
