Also rented a vw in 2009 which I hated, and around the same time I rented a new chrysler 300 which also sucked. I owned a new 2010 hyundai genesis coupe which was ok but I much prefer the 300zx.

I like the clutchless electronic gearboxes. You can control the gears without worrying about a clutch.

The only vehicles that I've had in auto have been 2 vans... All of my cars and wagons have been stick... In the US it's getting harder to find vehicles with stick, IDK WTF gives.... Let the people drive stick. Offer a manual for everything...

clutchless automatic is standard now. You can change the gears at will but I guess it's not the same as a stick shift.

Getting more auto focused here too mate. Kids can get a Automatic only License!? Meaning they can't legally drive a manual!

Yea DSG or similar... Something with paddle Shifters etc...
Bring back the manuals and real emergency brakes... Not electric solinoid parking brakes

I've heard that it's like that in Germany too. If you take your test in an auto, you can only drive auto. If you take your test in a stick, you're good.
  8:32pm

I wish the US had the same standards for driving competence as germany. It would be cool if they gave more tickets for driving too slow than too fast. That's what we need.

Such a lazy & limiting option ain't it mate! Understanding what a cars engine is doing is a vital part of vehicle control. Now it's all, let a computer do it.

It would be sweet if the slow car in the fast lane would actually get a ticket for impeding traffic... I'm all for it
  8:40pm
Blissland:

↳ Will thee Sound Guy @8:38
Absolutely. Where I am now I have to drive 30 miles to get anywhere on a 2 lane road. Invariably I am stuck behind someone doing 20 miles under the speed limit. They are the worst menace and the biggest source of road rage.
  8:41pm

Then there are the ones who brake repeatedly for nothing. Most folks around here don't have any feeling for their car or what to do with it.

i remember a story that john halvorson told me about mark e smith that when the fall did an album on sub pop, he met with corporate and put his feet up on the desk and said, 'ok, where's the cocaine?' which i'm sure he was interested in but at the same time equating sub pop corporateers with coke dealers

It's amazing that you can actually slow down without doing anything, or even with your foot on the gas. The constant brake kills me for sure... As does the fast initial flash brake lights. They should be illegal

I'd say my speed control is more than 90 per cent throttle, braking is usually only for stopping or emergencies. Occasionally for slowing down.

i'm glad you have a good experience with that.
i don't know exactly what year the earliest was of the ones i drove -maybe 2005, or 06... 3 models, 4 years, including 1 a5 convertible, 2 of one of the large luxury sedans and...something else in between
things i hated about them: poor visibility/cameras; touch-screen controls for many functions; a slight hesitation upon hitting the gas; ugly!... and the only time i've gotten stuck...stranded actually -on ice/in snow in the past several decades was when i borrowed one of the big, heavy quatro luxury sedans!
things i liked about them all: excellent road-holding; very fast.

i think this was a 325i. the most common problem besides just being completely dead many mornings was the alarm. it couldn't be locked without setting the alarm, and many times we were awakened in the middle of the night by the alarm going off for no reason
