I wonder. It may be out raw Intelligence that makes us so violent & opportunistic. We don't have big sharp teeth or run like cheetahs. We are born very vulnerable & dependent - unlike say hyenas (also very aggressive)...
What we have are big wrinkly Conceptual brains, opposable thumbs to Use Everything - & speech & complex Societies for our Food Chain Dominance.
Of course - anything Evolved to Adapt becomes (or may become) a Maladaptation if Circumstances &/or the Environment changes. If, say, Using Everything & a headful of Concepts not relating enuff to Reality means we're crapping in our dawgydish. This is called : Devolution. About which the truth can finally be revealed...
