Absolute freedom (well, mostly) from the perpetual rat race can be illuminating in the sense that one has more precious time to dwell upon, ponder, and to explore others' realities. considering the progressive thinking that went into star trek i think they would have acknowledged that there were far too many people already and didn't think it appropriate to basically endorse making babies on the tv show.

Chuck Palahniuk was a guest on Coast To Coast AM last week, and he was talking about how the overall message of his novel Fight Club went mostly misunderstood. But he talked a bit about that Joseph Campbell thing where each person, young men especially, have their father but then they have a secondary father figure who will test them or guide them in their journey....The Leonard Cohen music video to What Happens To The Heart comes to mind, too.

It’s actually extremely involved task. Endless minute adjustments with each job. Dependent on the pressers paying close attention on the lookout for certain minor flaws. And then there’s the QC folks who listen to what we’re pressing all day long. It is all automated, but each job has its own profile to tweaked. Very precise adjustments in timing and temperatures of steam and cold water. Super rad.
