It's Singles Going Steady week on WFMU, so today I'm starting with the '70s, continuing with the '70s, and ending with the '70s! That's right, it's Singles Going Seventies vol. XI! Yesterday I flipped through all my singles at home and pulled a mix of forgotten, remembered, and never-were hit singles released from 1970 through 1979 (inclusive)! It's three hours of Top 40 radio from an alternate universe: From AM Gold to AM tin, from the rise of disco to the start of its decline, from the dawn of punk to the pre-pending of the word “post” and more, all jumbled together as they should be.
Also: We're approaching the halfway point of our HELLRAISER Fundraiser! I'm super-grateful to everyone who's pledged so far (59 pledges to my show as I type!), but I know there are a lot of folks out there who haven't made a pledge yet. In a 3 May 2008 interview with Michael Shelley of WFMU, Edwards recalled that after hearing Maxine Nightingale sing on the session for Al Matthews' "Fool" that track's producer Pierre Tubbs had come up with "Right Back Where We Started From" as a good title for a song for Nightingale herself to record and had invited Edwards to co-write the song.
