Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from October 6, 2023 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

Probably the best scenario is being free to work your own schedule and get paid accordingly. If you can do 32 or 30, fine. Or 40, or 50. Whatever floats your boat. Back when I was doing e-discovery as a temp, I generally worked HUGE hours when I could when OT was available--it depended on each temp firm/gig. When I could get foreign language work with OT I squeezed out every hour of work that I could because generally, those situations only lasted a month at most and i could earn a huge amount of my annual income in that month if I could last an 80-hour work week with 1.5 OT for hours 40-60 and 2xOT for 60-80. Most jobs were capped at 80 hours a week but people did it to get while the getting was good -- for foreign language work, the hourly sometimes was as high as $70/hour BASE, so if you could crank that last 20 hours in you were getting $140/hour. Those days are LONG gone alas. But I remember working 7 days a week, work/sleep/work/sleep when I could, taxis home at night, to grind those Benjamins.

At the end of my time working for Crazy Eddie's records in Manhattan, I was working seven 12 hour days a week. I was management. I ended up getting physically sick. My doctor told me that I could either change my hours or change my job. The former was impossible. I quit.

Good that you have representation. I was also part of a "management association", an REO formed out of necessity. Staff could not be laid off due to various union representation, so they went after first line supervisors (i.e., me), who quickly formed our own union. 10 years ago, I had thought unions outlived their usefulness. Today, it seems everyone is after the average worker, and they need protection.

The summer that I was 17 I had a 40 hour a week warehouse job that paid pretty well especially because it was under the table. On Fridays, I'd work at a pizza place till close, then often open to close on Saturday and Sunday. At that age, I still had the energy to have a good time between all that. Was probably the most fun summer I ever had.
