Extra dimensions are old hat. Now each vibe is a Pokémon, wwyd? Agitation classics, spiritual chaos, noise genre, drone excerpts, tone worship, safe & sane record warping. Music! Every media format! Incoming and outgoing phone calls! Voicemail, audio attachments, reading your horoscopes thru a tasteful amount of delay. For the people.

/i sort of literally grew up in the orange pakr, fl library as my mom dropped me off there after school, and the staff would alllow me to check out the reference books (which was verboten), and the staff loved me....(age 5-9)

i practically lived at the Somerset County Library on Saturdays, after ballet classes, until my mother was finished with grocery shopping (she did not drive, so that was the one day per week she was able to go anywhere, my dad would take her to two or three grocery stores, & she had a ton of coupons -- so i could be in the library for hours)
at some point, this library started carrying records! and the librarian in charge was this younger, kinda "hippie" dude -- longish hair, John Lennon wire rimmed glasses, macrame belt, etc. -- but, he had an amazing diverse collection available! and once it was clear that i was a music geek too, he would always alert me to the new records they had just gotten in

i only recently learned of Lori, through hearing her collaboration with Laura Cannell on the Echolocation compilation, here on WFMU . . . and recently learned of Laura, too -- through her Amplify the Purrrsitive recording, also heard here on FMU, during one of Jim the Poet's shows

yes, i read the dictionary, as a kid too -- years later, at one of my jobs in the 1980s, my boss was talking about reading the dictionary, especially the Oxford! -- expressing to the perplexed looks of coworkers, "what's so odd about that?" 😸😸

when i was a kid, my mom told me about how when she was in high school, some books -- like "The Golden Bough" -- were under lock and key, off limits to little kids -- not great, but not full on banning!

by the time i was in 5th grade, i was always reading . . . often stuff way over my head, but still, such a joy . . . however, my 5th grade teacher complained about how i "always has her nose in a book" -- my mom was like, what teacher in their right mind would complain about a student reading?
