A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Ours are wall units. We're in a railroad, so losing windows would be tough. The landlord when we moved in was an AC company, somehow, and they installed them when they renovated the apt. before we moved in. Twenty years and three landlords ago.

Finally, some *real* weather. Can put on an extra shirt and it feels great.
Made kids their lunch and took them to school (on the way listening to the station come in and out while driving they remarked, “leave it on, I like this guy; he’s funny”), put a load of laundry on, laid on the couch to do 4 sets of deep breathing, did the dishes from the Indian food I not so successfully tried on the kids, and now up on the roof with the smoothie and black chicory coffee delighting in the weather.
Surreal, incredibly dramatic and rough week for my Jets (sorry; yes, it’s my one entertainment vice).
Good to be amongst you all.

Could ruminate on this long and hard with you (and Vivian!) I suppose, but perhaps not the right place.
Will be taking my son to his first major sporting event next weekend vs New England. Had hoped it would have been to see one of the all-time greatest QB’s to have ever played the game.
I’ll just say that, having gone to literally almost two decades of home games as a seasons ticket buyer but then losing interest as a activism after OWS supplanted any sports interest and then boycotting the racist blacklisting of Kaepernick, it was so much fun to share this reinvigorated interest in the Jets as a bond with my son…and I recognize this pattern once again, of the weekly cycle that starts out gloomy (even though they pulled it out against all odds in the end!) and ends with hope springing by Friday.

That’s every city dweller’s nightmare, isn’t it? Whether as a pedestrian or as each of us annually has to begin that tiresome and dangerous annual routine beginning in late Spring of re-installing these bulky, unbalanced metal boxes, without which life in the city during the summer would be intolerable.
Then you can be tricked into thinking they’re ready to finally be taken out, until another goddamn heatwave hits. Have found that you just gotta err on the side of keeping them in a little longer. Frustrating. Because it’s such a joyous day when you finally box them up and not see them again for many months.
Bass player in my band in the early 90’s who was from upstate had a story of arriving in NYC to live and seeing a girl walking down the street get hit by a falling one. Always made me look up occasionally, just to check (for what?).
But probably nice up there now, Zip. Don’t have to worry about these things anymore.

But taking Trouble and you all along for the company.
Sheepishly confessing to alternating between the often toxic, hyper masculine sports talk radio, which is so beyond comparison to this often nourishing space it’s jarring to the core.
This sport gets you in its clutches and does not let go.
Thanks for the show, Trouble and Troublemakers!

Have to dwell on that for a few moments…because I’m inclined to agree, having played both for most of my life.
But my initial observation is that many of the most gifted musicians I’ve ever played with do not have any proclivity toward watching or playing sports. But of course there are many who love both.
I’ve always felt that being in a band was like being on a team, and vice versa, in terms of that ability to work together toward a common goal.
