in the first grade (back when suburban florida had rural parts), and she missed our turn. A mile later after I complained, she turned on a narrow dirt road, and wisely attempted a 3*n point turned, and made us flip in a ditch (just as I dropped the book I was reading, so I smashed my face against one of the metal supports holding up the bench across the aisle from me). Two hours of some kids crying, and us chilling around some country ditch, another bus came and took us home. Parents were not amused. I was rather blase about the whole thing...

That makes sense. If you listen to American radio (which I don't recommend), you won't hear too many banjos and fifes or even scratchy fiddles either. It's a specialized genre.

If you get to a certain age, you will start to get a newsletter/magazine from the AARP. And in the latest issue (I must have seen it at a friend's house), it had some terrible cartoons. But one was not bad.

This is such an amazing theme to present. Thank you, I have been a huge fan of Morita Doji since 1996 when the vocalist of Angel In Heavy Syrup introduced me to her music. There was a side project of musicians from the Alchemy Record label including Angel In Heavy Syrup vocalist Mineko, called Slapp Happy Humphrey covering Morita Doji's music. Morita Doji sued to take that album off of the market but since Morita Doji's passing that album has been reissued.

Since I tuned in late and most of these artists are new to me I am going to have to go back and listen once this is up on the archives.

I don't understand the basis for age-based discounts. Some senior citizens are very wealthy or at least well off. Why do they get a discount on movie tickets and hotels when poorer working families do not? It makes no sense to me.

Folk (western folk) dies out in Japan around the late 70s early 80s, and some of these artists didn't recover, while others explored new directions. Maki was among the latter

"In 2021, 55.7 million Americans were age 65 and older. Half of all older adults had less than $27,382 in yearly income from all sources."
So there's that, even while there are plenty NOT in need. And there's the impracticality of on-the-spot means testing in retail/services/consumer world. There's also what I've always assumed to be our society's own more blurred version of simply recognizing the life effort and journey of those who make it to senior years, as so many other cultures do in tradition and respect.
I just made it a couple months ago to the standard senior discount age, and I can use and will take some of 'em, even with the hue of weirdness upon entry to the landscape of discounts.

Yes, that makes sense, and it does no harm in movie discounts and the like. But the poverty rate in children has just shot up (with the reduction of child tax credit) and with the huge problems of families finding child care, I would suggest that we need to find a less coarse filter for our financial aid. That said, I take the discount like half the time.
