Mort Garson | Leave the Driving To Us | Wozard of Iz - An Electric Odyssey | Universal Music Group | 2023 | The Wozard of Iz is an album of electronic music composed and realized by Mort Garson and conceived and written by Jacques Wilson. It parodies the movie The Wizard of Oz, setting the characters in the 1960s with a hippie mindset. Throughout the story the main character, Dorothy, seeks out "where it's at". In a 1969 interview, Garson admitted that he hadn't used the Moog synthesizer in "a very sophisticated way" for his 1967 album, The Zodiac: Cosmic Sounds. However, by the time of The Wozard of Iz, he had learned most of the techniques for using the instrument. | * | 0:02:20 (Pop-up)
Spectrum | How You Satisfy Me | Soul Kiss (Glide Divine) | Sony Music UK | 1992 | For Spectrum, Pete Kember AKA Sonic Boom recruited new musicians Richard Formby, who had previously contributed guitar and keyboards to Sonic Boom's side of the final Spacemen 3 album Recurring, and Mike Stout for the group Spectrum in 1991. Initial Spectrum releases carried on from the sound of late-period Spacemen 3, featuring conventional songs and a regular band. First single "How You Satisfy Me" was an original composition by Kember and Formby reminiscent of 1960s garage bands, based as it was upon the Chip Taylor-penned pop hit "I Can't Let Go". Since 1996 the Spectrum name has been used for Kember's solo work, sometimes with Bain and recording engineer/musician Alf Hardy. The music made with Bain and Hardy was often in the same vein as E.A.R., reflecting an increased interest in vintage analogue synthesizers, especially those made by EMS. After issuing 1997's Forever Alien album, there were no further releases of new material under the Spectrum moniker until 2008's Indian Giver collaboration with Jim Dickinson. | 0:05:13 (Pop-up)
Powerplant | Beautiful Boy | Beautiful Boy Single | Statc Shock | 2023 | After last year’s instrumental fantasy album Stump Soup, London-based quartet, Powerplant, emerge from the dungeon and back to reality with a 5 track electronic punk record. Grass was released 14th July via London’s Static Shock Records (Uranium Club, Sheer Mag, Chubby and The Gang, Warthog). Recorded in bedrooms with the closing song vocals tracked at East London’s music community hotbed Fuzzbrain Studio. With a rigid drum machine backing, the track feels similar to a locked rollercoaster ride, taking you through carefully planned and executed spins and swirls, translating the emotional torture of grief and sudden loss. Powerplant’s mastermind Theo Zhykharyev explains, “I had the melody and the lyrics more or less written for quite some time but it didn’t mean a lot to me, until so much was lost and taken by the russian invasion of Ukraine last year. The carcass of ‘Beautiful Boy’ was what I had to process the loss personally.” | * | 0:09:25 (Pop-up)
Mora sti Fotia | Third Uncle | Mora sti Fotia | Ano Kato | 1988 | The band formated in 1985 in the town of Veria by three friends with the name Τεμπέληδες της Εύφορης Κοιλάδας (Tempelides tis Efforis Koiladas). In 1986 the band relocated to Thessaloniki and changed the name to Λεγεώνα των Ξένων (Legeona ton Xenon). In 1987 the band changed the name to Μωρά Στη Φωτιά [Mora Sti Fotia], the same year the first album of the band was released under this name. In 2004 the leading member of the band, Stelios "Salvador" Papaioannou created his personal label, Baby Records, with purpose to release the band's works with it. | 0:12:02 (Pop-up)
Cockney Rejects | Police Car | Flares 'n Slippers (EP) | Small Wonder Records | 1979 | Cockney Rejects were formed in 1978 by brothers Jeff and Micky Geggus, with their brother-in-law Chris Murrell on bass and Paul Harvey on drums. Their first demo, "Flares n' Slippers", caught the attention of Small Wonder Records owner Pete Stennett, who introduced the band to Bob Sergeant. With Sergeant, they recorded their single "Flares n' Slippers", which sold out its first pressing. Their 1980 song "Oi, Oi, Oi" was the inspiration for the name of the Oi! music genre. Staunchly anti-government, they unfortunately were quite misunderstood, partly because of their ties with football...hooliganism. But they also clashed with far right neo-nazis who tried to start shit at their gigs...with bad outcomes for the nazis. As it should always be. | 0:17:05 (Pop-up)
Butthole Surfers | Human Cannonball | Locust Abortion Technician | Touch and Go | 1987 | Locust Abortion Technician was the first Butthole Surfers album to not be recorded in a professional studio. After growing tired of living on the road, the band relocated to Winterville sometime in 1986, where they rented a small two-bedroom house, and used their meager savings to purchase an old Ampex 8-track tape machine and two microphones. Additionally, the new studio freed the band from having to worry about recording costs, allowing them to experiment even more than on previous releases. Jeff Pinkus has also said that the home studio gave them the luxury of taking extended breaks for drug use. "The aural equivalent of a nightmarish acid trip and arguably the band's best album (or worst, depending on your point of view), Locust Abortion Technician tops the psychedelic, artsy sonic experimentation of Rembrandt Pussyhorse while keeping one foot planted firmly in the gutter." It is a masterpiece. | 0:18:28 (Pop-up)

Ed Banger |
2006 |
This little banger might be tad repetitive but it's effective as hell and always gets a party going. Plus it's a great tune for a car chase down a highway....Zongamin is Japanese/UK artist Susimu Mukai...His music has been described as "incorporating left-field disco, funk, hip-hop, and house, along with good old sloppy garage rock and spaghetti Western soundtracks", and "post punk, somewhat cheesy funkdom interspersed with droning catchy dance hooks".[2] Gigwise.com described his debut album as "a schizophrenic shot of spaghetti western mayhem, angular foot-stamping menace, and made-in-the-kitchen-sink funk" |

The Clashification of Dub |
Echo Beach |
2011 |
The title of this disc has it exactly backwards: this album represents not the Clash-ification of dub, but rather the dubification of the Clash. Swiss neo-reggae stars Dub Spencer and Trance Hill take 12 classic Clash songs and reinterpret them as dubwise instrumental reggae; it's the kind of project that is liable to either succeed wildly or fall flat on its face... |

A Tuesday Weld | Umm... | Leisure Terrorists | Theta State Recordings | 1994 | Toronto, ON-based noise-pop/shoegaze band extant from 1992 to 1994. / Members: Elisabeth Kurtis, Jonathan Bunce (AKA Jonny Dovercourt), Kevin Vernhout, Mike Canzi, Omar Sheriff "A Tuesday Weld was one of the first noise-pop or “shoegazer” groups to emerge from Toronto in the early 90s. Together less than two years, from 1992-94, with only a three-song tape, a CD comp track and a handful of reviews to remember them by, the quintet nonetheless made a lasting impact on the Toronto independent music community." Jimmy Cliff | Waterfall | Wonderful World, Beautiful People 7" | A & M | 1969 | Jimmy Cliff is the only living reggae musician to hold the Order of Merit, the highest honour that can be granted by the Jamaican government for achievements in the arts and sciences. At the age of 14, "Hurricane Hattie" became his first hit. In 1964, Cliff was chosen as one of Jamaica's representatives at the World's Fair in New York; and in the same year Cliff was featured in a program called "This is Ska!" alongside Prince Buster, Toots and the Maytals, and Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. "Basically, I'm motivated to write about sociopolitical issues as well as relationships. I think those themes have stayed with me throughout my life." | 1:21:43 (Pop-up)
Quintron | Waterfall | Too Thirsty 4 Love | Goner Records | 2008 | Quintron (real name Robert Rolston; born c. 1967 in Germany) is an American musician and leader of the eponymous one-man-band, "Quintron". He is a nightclub organist and inventor, who has patented a number of his own inventions and often performs at his own private club, the Spellcaster Lodge in New Orleans. Mr. Quintron is known for his eccentric behavior. In 1996, during an interview for a Times-Picayune article, he told interviewer Bill Grady that he and his wife were first cousins. He also conducted the interview in a wheelchair, explaining that he had fallen from a roller coaster while at Six Flags over Mid-America. In an interview with Odyssey Magazine, Quintron qualified his unusual demeanor and explained his attitude towards the press, remarking; "I am aware that this interview is a game and I can step outside of this page to see it for what it is. You know, I may never say what I have just said in another interview ever. I can be inconsistent, unreliable, contradictory... like electricity or plumbing." | 1:24:13 (Pop-up)
Liiek | Waterfall | Liiek | Liiek / rds rec. hh | 2020 | LIIEK is a German three piece band of ADKosmonauten Crew playing austere post-punk.The songs coalesce around the bass lines, which have a driving yet funk-and-dub-informed quality that reminiscent of bands like Pylon and Delta 5. However, these grooving bass lines contrast with angular guitar lines and shouted, staccato vocals, both of which recall early Devo. Then, just for run the whole formula gets flipped with a surf-y lead guitars taking the spotlight on some tunes while the bass and drums march forward with a motorik pulse. This band is great and we shall continue to play them here on the beach! Liiek (Bandcamp) | 1:28:29 (Pop-up)
Sonic Youth | Drunken Butterfly | Dirty | Geffen Records | 1992 | Dirty is the seventh full-length studio album and second double album by American rock band Sonic Youth, released on July 21, 1992, by DGC Records. The band recorded and co-produced the album with Butch Vig in early 1992 at the Magic Shop studios. There were many high hopes for this record, with some hardcore fans crying "sellout"...however all four singles did relatively well, including this one and cemented Sonic Youth as a pillar of college indie rock. The lyrics to "Drunken Butterfly" were taken wholly from song titles and lyrics of Heart songs, and the track was originally titled "Barracuda" after a Heart song. The final title was taken from Heart song "Dog & Butterfly", which sounds a bit like "drunken butterfly". | 1:30:28 (Pop-up)
Sinfonico Honolulu | Caterpillar | Thousand Souls Of Revolution | Sinfonico Honolulu | Sinfonico Honolulu is the first and largest ukulele orchestra in Italy. Tuscan and Livorno musicians, in suits and ties, brought together by the sweet vibrations of the sound of the ukulele, to revisit the greatest hits of international rock and pop from the 1950s to today, supported by a bass and drums. "The small four-stringed instrument hides behind its apparently playful appearance a world of sounds, colours, atmospheres and possibilities with which it is worth rediscovering famous melodies in a new dress and listen to the songs in this new key, retrace the styles, the path of the bands, the customs that have accompanied our society in the last 70 years of music history." | 1:33:28 (Pop-up)
Blonde Redhead | Misery Is A Butterfly | Misery Is A Butterfly | 4AD | 2004 | Misery Is a Butterfly is the sixth studio album by American alternative rock band Blonde Redhead. The album was released on March 15, 2004, by 4AD. Much of the visual and lyrical imagery of the album is reflective of an accident in which lead singer Kazu Makino was trampled by a horse. | 1:36:40 (Pop-up)
Lush | Sweetness and Light | Gala | 4AD | 1990 | The band was formed in 1987 in London, initially named the Baby Machines (after a line in the Siouxsie and the Banshees song "Arabian Knights"), with a line-up of Meriel Barham (vocals), Anderson (guitar, vocals), Berenyi (guitar, vocals), Steve Rippon (bass guitar) and Chris Acland (drums). Their influences were diverse; they were inspired by the garage rock scene of the Nuggets series, Cocteau Twins, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Beach Boys and the Byrds. | 1:41:45 (Pop-up)
