Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

I saw this show with the original cast I think, and remember nothing about it at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm

saw 'titanic' too. that was a stinker - the big special effect for the ship sinking didn't work so they had like a 5-foot-long model sink. audience really snickered.

Something that must be addressed is that whether a production is a success on broadway has much more to do with how the show was financed and what their marketing budget is/was. It's the reason why these shows shutter so early in NYC is there is no grants or government funds that can keep ticket prices down like they have in the West End and most of Europe.... where these shows flourish and run for years!

I know, it's a fun book. It just drives me nuts because with the stakes being so insanely high in NYC i've seen and been a part of fantastic productions that producers make terrible decisions based on fear that tank otherwise good to great shows. It deffinatly soured me to that aspect of business. But I love the art form. I miss it & it'll always break my heart.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm

Tix are $150+ these days, but that's so unusual, other entertainment has caught up (concert tix can be as much or more, ever check prices for a football game?) The demand has to be really high to sustain the pricing (Taylor Swift pulled in off, but I'd guess it's tough).

If you can justify the cost then I guess by all means go for it? But when you are buying a ticket to a new show you are taking a chance on it. Those ticket prices should reflect that gamble. Simialarly to the way a new act sells $20-$40 tickets. Then when they become megastars I guess charge as much as you want. But it SHOULD be a slidding scale. Wicked is a smash charge $200, but you should not expect people, especially the young people that are necessary to keep the industry alive to shell out that much money on a new work. It's just bad business.
Avatar 8:38pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

This is why I love lotteries, it's how I was Wicked for $30 (to name just one example)
Avatar 8:40pm
Bob Barth:

↳ Bronwyn Bishop @8:38
Totally - I get it. But thats how much it should be for everyone on a new show. I promise you'll see shows grow and flourish in surprising ways.
