When I turned 40, a friend shared some advice. He said bring a bottle to doctor appointments and act like youโre on a date.

The weird thing is that I had a long conversation with Jones in Asbury Park the summer before X-Ray died and I told him that their dialogues would be seen as NJ folk literature some day. Jones got all teared up. It only hit me after X-Ray died, that Jones knew that summer that X-Ray didn't have much time left.

A long, long time ago, in a land far, far away, a radio monument was erected to our arrested adolescence. That erection, known as โThe Teenage Wasteland,โ hosted by Bill Kelly, has been a toxic waste dump to all of those among us who despise rrreal rock and roll since its demon spawn back on that hoary day, August 15th, 1978, over the formerly pristine airwaves of WFMU.
