With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

' Peter Mark Sinclair "Marc" Almond, OBE (born 9 July 1957) is an English singer. Almond first began performing and recording in the synthpop/new wave duo Soft Cell where he became known for his distinctive soulful voice and androgynous image. He has also had a diverse career as a solo artist. His collaborations include a duet with Gene Pitney on the 1989 UK number one single "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart". Almond's career spanning over four decades has enjoyed critical and commercial acclaim, and he has sold over 30 million records worldwide. He spent a month in a coma after a near-fatal motorcycle accident in 2004 and later became a patron of the brain trauma charity Headway.
He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2018 New Year Honours for services to arts and culture. '

The Gadget
2oz Glen Passaic
12 firecrackers
13ft slow-burning fuse, cut into 1ft lengths
duct tape
Twist slow-burning fuses onto main fuses of firecrackers. Trim each combined fuse to precisely the same length. Duct tape the firecrackers to the drinker's head, such that they are spaced as evenly as possible around its surface. (Use a bar napkin to measure.) Twist the loose ends of the fuse together with one end of the remaining length of fuse. Pour the shot of Glen Passaic, and place shot glass right-side-up on drinker's tongue. Light the fuse, duck, and cover. If the firecrackers detonate at the same instant, the resultant shock wave will compress the Glen Passaic into a plasma, which will go critical, and explode in a blast of deadly radiation, an atomic fireball, and a wave of euphoria. If they don't, fetch a mop.
Legend has it that, after trying his first Gadget at the Stork, Robert Oppenheimer said, "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds." In fact, what he said at the time was "Bartender! Fix me another." The line from the Bhagavad Gita came to him the next morning, when he woke up with the world's first nuclear hangover.

Since the beginning of the episode, I've been wracking my brain trying to remember who was the grand dame for whom Marc Almond produced an excellent late career album. I've read the Wikipedia page for Almond and didn't see a mention. (though I am often blind sided by what is right in from of me.)

I asked about records/cds at a market in a small town. The person looked at me, puzzled what I was talking about. When I finally got him to understand, he said "nobody used those, just a computer and a memory stick"
