We average about 8 to 10 fatal drownings per year on the river.
Most have alcohol as a contributing factor & almost all are people NOT wearing their life vests which is also a law.
I have friends who work in river rescue.
People not following regulations when on the river not only jeopardize themselves but also those tasked with rescuing them in the event of a rescue

I know because, well I've lived here in the area for 46 years and spent many days on the river with friends.
I almost drowned when I fell off the back of a raft (steering duty) in a set of moderate rapids & hit my head the rocks.
Passed out, luckily briefly, and recovered to swim & catch up with the raft.
I had a life vest on, but once you get a good lung full of water, the odds aren't great in your favor.
Respect for the river is what is necessary for all.
