I'm supposed to be doing laundry (but I'm sitting here instead)
I'm supposed to be writing a song (but I'm using my ears to listen to the radio instead)
Real Burnouts reference:
I was supposed to record an album for their label Cozy Home about 15 years ago (my friend was involved with the label), but I never got around to finishing it (because I was probably listening to the radio).

*Hello Pseu and fellow Hookers, busy choring, so mostly lurking so far. Hope you're all well, and ready for Fred & Alan talking with Pseu.
McGroovey:
My cousin is buddies with them since high school in the '70s, but I'm about 5 years younger, so I was too young to see the Flashcubes in their young heyday. But they supposedly have an album coming out soon, compiling the cover songs they've been releasing on Bandcamp over the past year or two.

2. right-mouse: search (probably google, unless you've set the default search to be something else)
3. Look at the search results. One of them is probably bandcamp, if it's new-ish.
Pseu is busy picking great records. She doesn't even have time to hit the SHIFT key to capitalize things for us!

I absolutely can't speak for everyone here – maybe there are some who do have those motives – but I know that when I'm listening to music, I'm mostly just afloat on the sea of my remarkable lack of knowledge (even though, oddly, I'm sometimes allowed to do radio shows) and I'm just reacting in real time to the feelings and memories the music triggers in me.
Because music doesn't exist in a vacuum – our reactions to it are informed by existing musical conventions we've internalized and the way what we're listening to works with and against those conventions, and the way music makes us feel can have a lot to do with other memories it's evoking, perhaps by quoting a bit of melody or lyric or instrumentation from some song we listened to in another, different time and emotional space.
So as I'm listening to something, I react to it and have particular feelings, and sometimes I want to share the experience I'm having. And sometimes the experience I'm having is a little glimmer of recognition, pulling out of the fog that "oh, hey, that sounds familiar! Isn't that cool?"
I'm rarely if ever a know-it-all familiar with the whole history of what I'm hearing – I mean, I'm the sort of person who can go for decades assuming that a favorite song I listened to in the Nineties was original to the band I heard performing it then, only to find out that it was a cover and EVERYBODY (certainly everyone else who would be found around the WFMU lunch table) knows the original version and indeed the life story of the original artist.
Because they even read musician autobiographies. Plural. On purpose. Those are the last thing I'd spend my limited book-readin' time on, now that I've fallen into Internet-drugged semi literacy.
And they know what was on the B-side of the single it was on, and they know the names of everyone on the band, and they know what other bands all of them were in.
But that sort of encyclopedic information about music and musicians just doesn't stick in my brain; I just float in the musical now, listening to and often enjoying stuff, and sometimes I want to say "Hey! Did you hear that? I think I heard a thing!" and that's just me experiencing the music and its echoes in my brain-pan, and I'm absolutely not trying to be a know-it-all because I just... couldn't even if I wanted to.
And maybe there are others who are also experiencing the songs in the now and sometimes catching a memory-glimmer the sounds trigger and occasionally wanting to share that experience.
