I only know one recording of this group, its 2021-ish release with Evan Parker, which is excellent. However, I'm a Parker enthusiast, so I'll be interested to hear them in other contexts.

Reading the Abrams interview you posted on Aquarium Drunkard. Just read the part where he was talking about Fred Anderson and The Velvet Lounge. I've read and heard positive things about Anderson and TVL but Abrams articulates it very well, brought it to life for me.

I got to meet Anderson, once, when I assisted a promoter as a gofer and I drove Anderson around on a couple of errands. Abrams' observations greatly fills out the gentle but strong spirit I sensed in Anderson.

Just realized that I saw/heard Joshua Abrams with Hamid Drake last Wednesday at Vision Festival. So many dots, have to hump to try to keep them connected.

Don't want to be persnickety, but I honestly feel that it's not enough for information to be natural. It should be *organic* as well. There, I said it!

I liked this disc a lot, but I also felt that the background was very similar in much of it, which got slightly on my nerves. I recognize that this is partly the intent of this kind of music (sameness, that is, not irritability), but that was my feeling.

Observations:

"I like to make music that blurs that line. Sometimes I think that the music gets confused as being just all improvised or a jam, which it’s not; it’s really specific. I try to write where it’s not so overt what is written and what is improvised. It’s like the whole thing is written and the whole thing has room for making decisions. And maybe that’s what improvisation is, the moment of decision."
