Wow, that's a hot take on DS9. I always liked both shows. I never thought DS9 was necessarily a rip-off. A sci-fi show/space opera only has a few possible settings -- mainly a starship or a space station. What else is there?

I was about to link to that article as well because its first several paragraphs are the most important ones, with JMS acknowledging that Berman and Piller didn't know. The rest of it seems pretty speculative to me. In any case, the bare bones may be similar but the end products were different enough. Also, if you reject every piece of entertainment made by a scumbag corporation doing scummy things, there won't be anything left to watch.

"Trials and Tribble-ations" (1996) was the only Deep Space Nine episode I ever saw.
I was intrigued by its “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid” technique; i.e., the insertion of scenes from the classic episode “The Trouble With Tribbles” (1967) into a new story.
It ended with the 1996 star appearing in a scene from the 1967 episode. Some call that the “Forrest Gump” technique, but I call it the “Zelig” technique.

Sometimes it occurs to me that listeners to WFMU must actually compose their own unique clan within the world which PKD detailed in his Clans of the Alphane Moon. Within this book there are the Pares, the Manses, the Skitzes, the Heebs, the Polys, the Ob-Coms, and the Deps as uniquely developed mentally divergent personality types. But, I'd wager that we might make up an entirely new listener clan known as, "the Lists," or listeners.
