Went on a fishing trip to Arkansas about 20 years ago. A dam was built on a river and the water that flowed came from below the dam and ran cold and became prime trout fishing. On one bank you could buy alcohol, on the other nothing but pentecostal churches.

Trip on the Buffalo River in Arkansas almost 45 years ago. We asked the guy who was shuttling our vehicle to our finishing spot where we could grab some alcohol nearby for our couple days of paddling. "You're in the middle of five dry counties, boys. Unless...you want to get something from the bootlegger." He ran the errand, we got some beer and Kentucky Beau whiskey at -- shocker! -- premium-plus prices.
So if I ever write a song that says, "Oh, I done business with the bootlegger." It's, like, y'know...like a true tale.

In a movie from '67 that I caught part of the other night, there was a belly dancing scene in a restaurant named Tangiers. There were MANY MANY belly dancing scenes in movies and TV shows in the 60s. Many. I don't think a montage of them would be something necessarily worth watching, other than as a trope-a-dope excursion/illustration.

Maybe logging and log drive films should be taken in moderation -- like belly dancing scenes -- but if ya likes 'em, you definitely should check on the YouTubes for The Last Log Drive from Maine Public Television 1970s archives, about the end days of the river drive tradition, and From Stump to Ship, a really great one from 1930 about the old days and how it wuz in the Maine woods and on the river.

With the codicil that NYC always and consistently chooses cars over safety. Every planning decision maximizes auto access and minimizes safety. The astrotuf fights by "neighborhood groups" against protected bike lanes and taking away traffic lanes are so disheartening when it's clear over and over that when you make less room for cars, fewer people drive and then fewer people are hurt and killed.
