A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Needed this Dinah Washington. Had the phone on WKCR this morning while riding with the kids to school and they were playing an amazing live album of hers. Must familiarize myself more.
Morning with a string of small frustrations: discovered yet another water bottle was left at the school playground and is gone; the other one misplaced or lost a riding helmet, then my bike chain locked up and had to seek the help of a stranger, followed by just squeezing the coffee bag too hard and it exploding all over the floor. Really good thing to be doing the deep breathing exercises first thing in the morning again.
Have done yoga and a cold shower. Got the requisite morning drinks, and now Trouble’s soothing sounds and you all.
Grazie amici.

Sometimes I wonder how I appear to others, because my release is often to unload a torrent of curses. My partner thinks it’s crazy. But goddamn it - it helps somehow! Heh…
As the ground coffee was exploding I’d been thinking of, and just recounted to her, another incident of enraging price-gouging at the local grocery stores. And this, just after she tells me last night that the grocer by the subway we patronize yet *again* overcharged for fruit. That’s a third time in about 10 days!
Folks, even if you’re conditioned to just automatically give your card at the checkout, ya gotta check the receipt!

Another dad at the school playground recently told me, in a discussion of why we continue to live in the city with kids (the incredible cultural diversity of the people in Queens came up big), that he recently came out to the street to find his car up on two milk crates and also missing two wheels. Made him for the first time give up owning a car.
Just finished Ada Calhoun’s “St Mark’s Is Dead” book. Your comment brought back images of the Tompkins Sq Pk showdowns and other scenes of urban struggle of which are part of life here.
Think you’d like it.

Two nights ago spent a lovely evening at the Louis Armstrong Museum, attending a showing of the film “Louis Armstrong’s Black and Blues,” in the backyard of his former home and current museum: youtu.be...
Definitely recommended.
Feels to me that your show, possibly more than any other on the station, is a place where there’d be a greater proportion of folks who revere N’awlins. But having said that, it occurs to me that it would probably be true station-wide.
Gem of a city; so unlike the rest of this hellhole country.

The other book I'm reading/looking at is Andres Serranos 'Uncensored Photographs'. I picked it up because while I was looking through it at the library I realized that I found most of his themes to be sophmoric rather than challenging. I decided to still get the book and read the essays to better understand his work.

Had to play a corporate gig in Boston and we were out up in a hotel that was a converted prison. Complete with a big wide open, high-storied lobby that was the area from which the prisoners were watched.

I was only able to do one thing there. Was out on a European tour (that began literally two or three days after 9/11) as a drum tech with an old friend’s band just after leaving my office job.
When we got to Dublin I’m not ashamed to say, in fact there’s a bit of pride in it, there was only one thing on my mind given the short few hours there until showtimes.
I took off on a wild goose chase, asking all and sundry, where Phillip Lynott’s grave was. Took two buses and after a lot of misdirection I finally came upon someone at the graveyard who knew the general proximity of where it was.
I made it, but almost got kicked off the tour for the adventure of it.
