I picture three things when I picture Don Pullen: the fingers on the keys, of course. But also the bells on his ankles, keeping steady time, and a slender, quiet fellow, folded like a letter just removed from its envelope, sitting on a wall and smoking a cigarette -- a Newport, I think.
