Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

I've got a recording of Book of Mormon but haven't listened much to it.

A great essay in NY Review of Books pointed out that Book of Mormon was the diametric opposite of the irreverent parody people were claiming it was.

You won't have to license the story, I guess.

My father and I and my sister attended a backer's audition for a show called "Faith", in the early 70s, a musical about a teenaged faith healer girl. It didn't get funded, and so never got to make it into "Not Since Carrie". I think the script hung around the house for a long time though.

This random commenter thinks you should try to get the songs first.

Not only will you be in a stronger position approaching whoever has the rights to the movie, but the movie was based on an article about real events, so even if you can't get the rights to adapt the movie you might be able to get the rights to adapt the same article the movie was based on, or even just use the actual events if you can get what you need from other sources.

Is this a Seventh Day Adventist musical?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm

I guess Midnight Cowboy is a kind of religious experience... Nilsson wrote this as the theme song, but the producers went with Everybody's Talkin'.

The book it was based on , Huxley's "The Devils of Loudun" was made into an opera by Krzysztof Penderecki "Die Teufel von Loudun "

And it had prominent use of vibraslap, a percussion instrument that I remember from my youth. Was surprised to read on Wikipedia that it was invented and first marketed in 1967.
