i was on a flight earlier today and listened to this album twice, immediate repeat listen. rare practice for me. but it is so deep, so heavy really fantastic

@Dave, you are off by a couple of miles: Winooski, VT. Four Quarters Brewing. It’s a v good brewery, but am not that crazy about milkshake IPAs. Need some time to figure out what I think about this.

I bought a few bottles of this Miles Davis/Bitches Brew beer because of the label.

(It's really bad, disappointing)
  7:47pm
Listener Gregory:

@doctorj, your beer SOUNDS better than my beer.
  7:47pm
Dean:

Dang, a bad stout? That's too bad. I love big beers: barleywine style, triple IPAs, etc., but somehow Dogfish Head often strikes me as too busy or too precious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm

nice to hear him talk on this. i’ve always been curious WLS and his Rastafarian practice

This is one of my favorite beers of late. It's high-octane, but bitter, bitter, bitter, and quenching at the same time.

Review of the maple creemee milkshake IPA: not bad. I ttook a few sips to get used to, but then it was pretty drinkable. However, I would personally greatly prefer Phaze, a regular IPA by Four Quarters over this. It’s a bit gimmicky.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
WR:

Many of Wadada's releases are available from his website:
www.wadadaleosmith.com...
  9:21pm
Dean:

Wow. Robert Palmer. The most salient experience I had with one of his reviews was when he covered Big Jay McNeely's return to performing at the Roundhouse in London, 1980s or thereabout. Prior to that review, I used to hear McNeely at a tiny bar on the eastern edge of LA Countuy. He was working for USPS, but was obviously poised to kickstart his musical career.
  9:23pm
Dean:

Instead of "improvisation," then, try "autoschediasm."
  9:23pm
Listener Gregory:

I find this critique of improvisation (or is it just the word “improvisation”?) to be peculiar.
  9:24pm
Listener Gregory:

@Dean, I will try it, but I’m not optimistic.
Avatar 9:25pm
Observations:

Gary Bartz said similar thing, can't find exact quote right now
  9:26pm
Dean:

I wrote a paper in law school larded with the word "autoschediasm," c.2003. My professor, whom I adore, advised against using peculiar jargon, so I excised it. Fast forward to 2020 or so, and Tyshawn Sorey produces a work titled, Autoschediasms.
Avatar 9:28pm
Observations:

↳ Listener Gregory @9:23
See this twitter.com...
  9:30pm
Dean:

"Autoschediastic" connotes hasty improvisation, which suggests that there are modes of deliberate improvisation.
  9:36pm
Listener Gregory:

Ethan Iverson suggests that many solos are not very improvised. The soloist comes upon a good solo and then re-uses large portions of it in recordings or future performances. THAT I understand. Of course, some solos can be constructed that way, and others have to be spontaneous, because the musician hasn’t played that song before. Consider many BlueNote recordings from the 50s and 60s.
  9:41pm
Listener Gregory:

The fact that Smith is playing this well in his 80s is insane.
