I get queasy when scholars dub "new" approaches "post-"[something]. It seems postfictional refers to fictional authors' abandonment of traditional formal aspects of the novel, characters, for example. It's an experimental critical approach (not that it performs experiments, but it's a trial effort). There's something too blunt, though, about deeming it post-something, as if we have worn out everything something had to offer, we've gotten beyond it. I doubt that we have.

@RRNov63: I gather "postfictional" is very different from "postmodern" (in its various architectural and literary/cultural critiical/philosophical guises) and certainly from deconstruction. I could go on about the evolution of the reception of the latter, but I won't. Certainly, though, I've also been bugged by the notion of postmodern anything. Again, it defines intellectual relationships with the world according to some abandoned paradigm or dispensation.

I wouldn't complain about Cheap Trick, whom I like a lot. I probably wouldn't even complain out loud about Radiohead or Coldplay, but I wouldn't like it at all.

Keith Jarrett works in a variety of styles of music, some of which I can hear as sonic correlative to wallpaper. But the standards trio, just wow, the best.
