I think my whole perception of the Irish as a child was formed by watching Irish Spring and Lucky Charms commercials. And the occasional cliche drunk cop on a cartoon.

Aitch. I wish! The label that's putting out that 7" doesn't like to spend $...
Avatar 4:35pm
Debbie Davenport:

In the early 70s I remember still seeing lots of derogatory stuff about Irish. But I got a 90's jokebook for kids and there were a few in there. I didn't even quite understand them. The jokes were so old.
Some Irish parts of my family were into that goofy cartoony Irish stuff. My aunt even used to keep Lucky Charms at home. Toilet humor stuff in the bathroom too.
  4:37pm
Cheree July:

Into what, Debbie? Your comment got cut off.

I can see the whole thing too. When I went to The Price is Right (early 2000s) there was a man who had his family dress in custom t-shirts that read: "The Price is Right -- for a Pollack." ???
Avatar 4:41pm

I remember one of the jokes I didn't understand had a punchline/answer of Irish ghost for something. I still don't get it. Must of been some slang way back when.
Avatar 4:42pm

I used to say "jew 'em down" every chance I got because my mom told me it was a compliment. I believed that until I was 17 and my friend told me that was offensive.

Yeah, me either Cheree. I can't figure out why it would be funny or offensive.
Avatar 4:44pm
Mr Fab:

That’s funny. My Irish American upbringing had absolutely nothing to do with all the cartoonish stereotypes. All that “lucky charms“ type stuff didn’t even register to me as Irish! St. Patrick’s Day was just some random day where McDonald’s would sell green milkshakes for some reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm

Like, I think I told you that I heard it once a while back and didn't think anything of it and then woke up one night with it stuck in my head so bad that I had to look it up, but the only lyric I remembered was "it's just another name for rock n roll" so I was frantically looking that up but there's a different song called that so it took forever
