The odds of the same choice twice in a row from a pool of 120 is just one out of 120 (or 119, since you're removed one possibility on the first choice). Getting a pre-specified one twice in a row would be one in 120*119 which is the 14280 you came up with. 120! is a big number - it is 120x119x118x117x...x3x2x1 the answer is 119 digits long - which would be the odds of picking *all* of the remaining choices in advance.

If i'm rolling a D6 ... and I roll a 6 then roll another 6 - what are the odds of "that" happening? Depends on what "that" is. Odds of rolling 2 sixes are 1/36 but odds of rolling the same number (any number) twice are 1/6. Sorry if this is excessively pedantic.

Oh, I know. But when I was nine, I did NOT care.

I have resisted getting one of these, but Lou Zocchi is a very nice fellow, and I don't think I will be able to resist when I see him next month.

My favorite book on probability is Fifty Challenging Problems in Probability with Solutions, by Frederick Mosteller. The hardcover is long out of print, but the Dover paperback (though also out of print) can be found here and there. It's a very thin book with a heck of a lot packed into it, including amusing illustrations.

That black D-Total is pretty impressive although I have no idea what all the symbols mean.

I've def. seen a d120 in the wild. I have d16 and d24 (and several d30s, of course). I wouldn't mind an alphabet d26!

I am a Gamescience (Zocchi) fan. He maintains that keeping sharp edges keeps the dice more pure, and I want to believe because I hate today's modern soft-sided dice.

D20s used to always have 0-9 twice, and you would color them different colors or roll another die along with them to determine whether to add 10 to the roll. One our great gaming moments was when my friend Ross, who was just having the worst gaming day, finally expostulated, "Man! I just can't even roll above a nine today!" I leaned over and checked, and sure enough, he was rolling an old-school d20 but without any coloring. It lives in infamy.

Later on, DiL!
